CHRISTIANS, JEWS AND “PALESTINIANS”

When we want to determine where we are on God’s timeline in terms of the Last Days, we need look no further than God’s timepiece, Israel and even more specifically, Jerusalem. The nation of Israel literally lies in the center of events that point to the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

God deals with Israel in the Land of the Covenant in harmony with the seven festivals of Leviticus 23 and therefore their elect will be born-again as a nation in one day confirming Israel is God’s timepiece. God measures no certain time by us Gentiles for He deals with us as individuals. His servant Israel is a distinct race—one nation in its Covenant Land bound within a common law and culture—separated from the nations of the world. As Israel has specific times and seasons to present itself before the Lord, He could declare in Isaiah 66:8 “the nation will be born-again in one day” in a certain year, month and week.

CHRISTIAN HERESY

Sadly, much of the Christian Church does not properly honor and recognize the nation of Israel, irrespective of the fact that God said to Abraham “I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (Genesis 12:3). The prophet Zechariah revealed that the physical descendants of Abraham (the entire Jewish nation) are the “apple of God’s eye” (Zechariah 2:8).

Israel is the foundation of the Bible and the Christian faith. God’s intimate relationship with mankind was re-established through the Jews after the fall of Adam. They are the true chosen people of God. It is the same eternal covenant-keeping God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob who is restoring Israel to the land of their fathers at the end of this age just as He promised. Her people were never expelled from the Land as chastisement for sin without God setting a precise time for their return.

The fact that Israel rejected Jesus as the Messiah resulting in their world-wide dispersion, has led to a great satanic deception which has invaded the Christian Church with many teachings that God’s covenant with Israel no longer exists. This is the view that the church is the new or true Israel that has permanently superseded Israel as the people of God.

It is true that God brought salvation to the Gentiles due to the stumble of the Jews (Romans 11:11). Paul stated that Gentiles who accept Christ are “grafted” spiritually into the Jewish nation and become a part of God’s chosen people (Romans 11:11-36). The Church was however grafted into God’s chosen people but never replaced or superseded Israel. Non-Jews can find great joy in knowing that all who accept Christ will be joined with the “apple of God’s eye”.

The heresy by these Christians has led to the Church abandoning Israel even though the entire world is coming against it, led by forces of evil. It has led to a plethora of false doctrine and anti-Semitism.

Some examples include the following:

  • Revelation has been turned into a history book, instead of being a prophetic book as God intended. Suddenly they Interpret the woman in Revelation 12:1-6 as the Church rather than true Israel.
  • Statements that Christ could return anywhere, even in light of Zechariah 14:4.
  • Misunderstanding of the purpose of the Tribulation and Rapture of the Church.
  • Ignorance of parts of Scripture, such as “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains” (Matthew 24:16).
  • Shear disdain for the Jews, even in the Church. 16th century Protestant Reformer Martin Luther wrote, “Therefore the blind Jews are truly stupid fools…” and “If I had to baptize a Jew, I would take him to the river Elbe, hang a stone around his neck and push him over with the words `I baptize thee in the name of Abraham’.”
  • Israel’s return to the land is just a coincidence.

Significance in the Jewish nation of Israel is found in the fact that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was brought into the world through the Jews and lived in Israel while on earth as a Jew. The scripture refers to Jesus as King of the Jews (Matthew 2:1-2, 27:11). God’s word also declares that Jesus will return to earth someday to rule and reign from Jerusalem (Zechariah 1:16, 8:3, 14:4, 14:16).

The Church never has nor ever will replace Israel in the eyes of God. This false teaching has no place in the Church and has caused much confusion concerning Bible prophecy and is the reason for anti-Semitism in the Church. This false doctrine should be permanently removed from the Church.

ABRAHAMIC COVENANT

The call to Israel as God’s chosen people began with Abraham. God said to him: “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are – northward, southward, eastward, and westward; for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants FOREVER”  – Genesis 13:14-15. God later reaffirmed this promise with his son Isaac and grandson Jacob (Genesis 26:3-5; 28:10-15).

“And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an EVERLASTING COVENANT, to be God to you and your descendants after you” – Genesis 17:7. This covenant is therefore unconditional in nature.

On the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates – Genesis 15:18

But prior to this covenant coming to pass, Abraham’s people spent 400 years under Egyptian bondage. The Exodus out of Egypt came after the sacrificial lamb was slaughtered and the celebration of the first Passover. This sacrificial lamb was a foreshadow of the True Lamb that would come centuries later – the Messiah Jesus Christ.

The Lord called them to be a holy people while leading them to the Promised Land and repeatedly warned them that consequences would follow disobedience. One of the punishments would be Israel’s enemies exiling them their land and taking them into slavery. History reveals that this came about as the Babylonians and Assyrians overtook the Jews. But these proved to be short-term takeovers as God restored His people to their land once they called out to Him and repented from their rebellion (Leviticus 26; Deuteronomy 30).

DISPERSION

Yet the Jews sinned again and after centuries of occupation, during the Roman siege and destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD, they were driven away from the Promised Land and scattered throughout the world as punishment for disobedience to God and rejection of Christ as the Messiah (Ezekiel 5:10). Jesus prophesied that this would occur beginning with the destruction of Jerusalem (Matthew 23:37-39). Also see God’s warnings in Leviticus 26:33 and Deuteronomy 28:64.

Jesus indicated that the Jews would remain exiled from Jerusalem for a long period of time – until the time of the Gentiles was fulfilled, “And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.” – Luke 21:24.

RESTORATION

God stated that He would punish the Jews but not completely destroy them (Jeremiah 30:11). The promise to restore Israel to their land someday was revealed to the prophet Ezekiel in the Valley of Dry Bones Vision (Ezekiel 37). Even though Israel was unfaithful, God is a forever faithful covenant-keeping God who would again restore the nation to their land. Leviticus 26:44-45 confirms this fact.

The restoration of Israel brings tremendous resistance from its enemies. The kingdom of darkness is fully aware of God’s plans with Israel and is the reason for the campaign of hatred against the Jews. Events such as the Holocaust are rooted in a satanically driven hatred against God and His chosen nation.

As God is always true to His word, the Jews have physically returned to Israel and the Jewish nation was officially reborn on May 14, 1948. One would think this event would have erased all thoughts of Replacement Theology.

The spiritual restoration will come about as a result of the worst persecution that Israel will ever face. “And it shall come to pass in all the land, says the Lord, that two-thirds in it shall be cut off and die, but one-third shall be left in it: I will bring the one-third through the fire, will refine them as silver is refined, and test them as gold is tested. They will call on My name, and I will answer them. I will say, This is My people; and each one will say, The Lord is my God” (Zechariah 13:8-9).

GOD’S PROPHETIC TIME CLOCK

As stated earlier, numerous prophecies of the Bible reveal that when certain events happen concerning Israel, respective prophecies will be fulfilled. One of these prophecies is the Seventy Weeks Prophecy found in the book of Daniel. The prophecy gives specific timeframes concerning the First Coming of Christ, His crucifixion, the antichrist, and Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

Jesus also gave the parable of the fig tree to His apostles as an indicator concerning His return to earth. He was conveying the message that when the fig tree (Israel) blossoms, His return would soon follow. He also spoke of Jerusalem and its trampling by the Gentiles as it relates to His Second Coming.

The prophecy of the fig tree was physically fulfilled on May 14, 1948 when Israel once again became a nation. The times of the Gentiles in Jerusalem started in June 1967 with the “Six-day” war. These fulfillments mark the soon closing of the Church dispensation. Scripture states the generation that sees these events will also see the return of Christ.

The spiritual cleansing must occur after Israel has been restored to their land. It will coincide with great distress and tribulation. A remnant of Israel will be refined in the fire of God’s wrath (Zechariah 13:9).

We find further evidence of that nation of Israel as God’s prophectic time clock when studying the Seven Feasts of the Lord. Of the seven feasts, there are three in the spring, one in the summer, and three in the fall.

PRESENT DAY CONFLICT

Many nations have adopted foreign policies for a two-state solution in what they believe is necessary for peace between the Jews & Palestinians. God however warned, “And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it” (Zechariah 12:3).

Regarding a two-state solution: Israel has put numerous offers on the table and they have been soundly rejected by the PLA. Land for peace simply will not work because ultimately Abbas and Hamas don’t want a two-state solution. Their goal is complete control and domination with Jerusalem as their capital.

Any Bible believing Christian would know the actual intent, especially that of the Arab world. “They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance” (Psalm 83:4).

God sternly warned that He would bring judgment upon nations that attempt to divide His land, “I will also gather all nations, And bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; And I will enter into judgment with them there On account of My people, My heritage Israel, Whom they have scattered among the nations; They have also divided up My land” (Joel 3:2).

We are seeing the beginnings of what Zechariah wrote about almost 2,600 years ago. The media, politicians, the pop culture and sadly, even the Christians we spoke about, have wrongly singled out the Jews as the problem. This is because many choose to believe a popular lie and ignore the facts about Palestine.

SO WHERE DOES THE “PALESTINIANS” FIT IN?

When you reduce the Israeli-Palestinian issue down to the ridiculous, you will find its root cause. The cause is the lie about ownership and what I will call “the Palestinian lie” in particular. The situation in the Middle East goes from bad to worse and is ultimately being used as fuel to turn all nations against Israel.

The Palestinian lie is quite simple: People are continually repeating the lie that there is a Palestinian people and that Israel is an occupying force. But truth is rooted in historical, documented, and verifiable facts. The main source to refute this lie is the Bible.

WHO ARE THESE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE?

The terms Palestine and Palestinian have origins dating back to the second century AD. The Roman Empire and its ruler Hadrian wanted to get rid of all Jewish identity in the region. He used the name of Israel’s ancient foes the Philistines and renamed the land Palaestina. The Philistines were located to the north of Israel in modern coastal Lebanon and parts of Syria.

The term Palestine was rarely used until Israel declared her Independence in 1948. The term Palestinian wasn’t widely used until the 1960s and 1970s. Yasser Arafat, a well-known terrorist was the chairman of the PLO (Palestine Liberation Organization) and his goal was to legitimize a people and cause that have no historical precedent. The PLO seeks to liberate “Palestine” through armed struggle. Since 1994, the PA (Palestinian Authority) has been the governing body of the so-called Palestinian people.

WHERE DID THE PALESTINIANS COME FROM?

Throughout history, there has never been a Palestinian people as a distinct group. This is a fabrication of terms used by Arabs to identify the people who occupy the Gaza Strip, West Bank, and other parts of Israel. These people are Arabs from Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and surrounding countries. The Arabs in the disputed areas can trace their recent history to Israel’s neighboring countries. While it’s true that Arab children are born in these disputed territories, they are Arabs who live in Israel, not Palestinians who live in occupied territory.

In announcing the “Disengagement Plan” in December 2003, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said the withdrawal from Gaza was to increase security of residents of Israel, relieve pressure on the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and reduce friction between Israelis and Palestinians. Hamas, the Islamic Resistance Movement, claims that the withdrawal is the result of violent Palestinian resistance to “Israeli occupation”.

To have a legitimate claim you must have historical precedent and there was never a Palestinian people in the land of Israel. People and organizations such as the late Yasser Arafat, Mahmoud Abbas, Tony Blair, the European Union, and the UN are promoting a distorted view of history and holding negotiations based on a false presupposition that Arabs (with no historical claim), deserve land that rightly belongs to the Jews. To make matters worse, many leaders are seeking to legitimize the Palestinian cause under the banner of evangelical Christianity with organizations like Christ at the Checkpoint and others.

Pope Francis, who I strongly believe is the false prophet in Revelation, also made a very unfortunate move by officially signing a treaty recognizing Palestinian statehood. There are also reports that the Pope referred to Mahmoud Abbas as an “Angel of peace.” Add to this the social media frenzy and downright antisemitic actions of many on university campuses, you have a cause based on nothing but lies.

REFUGEE STATUS OF THE PALESTINIANS

Soon after the Palestinian Arabs fled their homes during the 1948-49 war they were taken under the protective wing of the international community and protected like no other group in similar circumstances. This special treatment ranged from their very recognition as refugees despite the failure of many to satisfy the basic criteria for such status, to the unprecedented creation of a relief agency committed exclusively for their welfare: the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, or UNRWA.

Yet rather than help resolve the Palestinian refugee problem, this unparalleled indulgence has only served to confirm its permanency. And no factor has contributed more to this perpetuation than UNRWA, which, instead of ending direct relief and transferring responsibility for the refugees to the host Arab states within months, as stipulated by its mandate, has kept them on the U.N.’s dole for decades under false humanitarian pretense.

World War II created an unprecedented humanitarian crisis. In Europe alone, more than 16 million refugees and displaced persons languished in search of a solution to their plight. Some 250,000 Jewish Holocaust survivors herded in overcrowded camps (mainly) in the country that had just slaughtered six million of their brothers; and over 400,000 Finns driven from Soviet-occupied Karelia for the second time in half-a-decade. None of them were given such privileges.

The word “refugees” has been put in quotes with regard to the Palestinians currently cared for by UNRWA for the simple reason that they do not correspond to the conventional refugee concept, which views this phenomenon as a temporary plight that needs to be rectified swiftly. As early as 1929, the League of Nations decided that its International Office for Refugees would shut down within a decade at the most.

Apart from recognizing the Palestinians as refugees despite their failure to meet the basic criteria for this status and assigning a distinct agency to tend to their affairs, the U.N. blindly registered countless false claimants as refugees despite its keen awareness of the pervasiveness of this fraud, then let their falsely obtained status be passed on to future generations.

Responsibility for the Palestinian “refugees” should long ago have been transferred to the Palestinian Authority and the host Arab governments, thus ending their eternal “refugeedom” and facilitating their integration in their respective societies as equal and productive citizens.

THE LIFE OF A PALESTINIAN

The Arabs in Israel are treated fairly and Arab laborers flock to work in Israeli factories instead of those in the West Bank where wages are sometimes double that of Arab employers. Arab citizens in Israel enjoy modern amenities and a stable government. Compare that with the poor living conditions in Baghdad, Damascus, or Cairo and there is simply no comparison.

The governing bodies of Hamas and the PA take western aid money meant to help improve the lives of the so-called Palestinian people. Much of the money ends up lining the pockets of the governing officials and used to procure weapons that are used to wage jihad on the citizens and population centers of Israel. The Hamas thugs routinely place their weapons of war near playgrounds, mosques, and homes of civilians. These actions are indicative of the mindset of the entities Israel is forced to go to the bargaining table with groups calling for the destruction of Israel.

WHAT SHOULD CHRISTIANS DO?

When you see the hate-filled, ignorant, lopsided, anti-Israel anti-Jewish propaganda, understand where it originates from. Satan hates Israel, its people, and its God. The prophets, the Bible, the apostles, and the early church all originated right there. The gospel has gone out from there. It started with the great commission at the Mt. of Olives and will crescendo right up to 144,000 Jewish evangelists proclaiming salvation through Jesus during Daniel’s 70th week. Men including Pharoah, Haman, Hitler, and the coming antichrist have attempted or will attempt to put an end to God’s promises. The Bible tells us the Lord will have the final say regarding who the land belongs to.

Understand that the political turmoil in the Middle East is simply an indicator of the nearness of the Lord’s return. We should see the Israeli-Palestinian issue for what it is: An attempt to undermine what God has done. We can choose not to remain silent despite the onslaught of anti-Jewish rhetoric from the divestment and social gospel crowd.

We should reach out in love to both Jewish and Arab people and be a bold witness for the gospel of Christ. Christians should stand with Israel and we can do that while we show compassion and love to both Jews and Arabs. It may not be politically correct to stand in solidarity with Israel, but history will prove it’s the right thing to do.

We are seeing the stage being set for the end time scenario as Israel and Jerusalem become the geopolitical focal point of the world. No one knows the day or hour of the Lord’s return, but in light of recent events, we seem to be closer than ever. Maranatha

IMAGES IN A SCATTERED MIRROR (THE LATTER DAYS)

(WRITTEN BY A DEAR BROTHER IN CHRIST – HENNIE VAN HEERDEN)

“For now we see in a mirror, darkly…”(1Co 13:12 ASV)

If there is one thing eminent in these last days, it is that we are living in the days of a scattered mirror, where the various dogmas became distorted images and views of the Word of God. It is therefore prophesied that: “the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.” (Isa 28:13 KJV)

The seed of confusion always follows truth, because since the beginning in the Garden of Eden the distortion of the Word of God came from the master of lies and distortion of the truth, Satan. As in the days of Moses in Egypt with the plagues, Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses and resist the truth, because they were men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. (2Ti 3:8)

It is clear what Jesus utilised to explain many things Himself to unveil what has been kept secret from the foundation of the world: “All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.” (Mat 13:34-35)

In aftermaths on Jesus’ teachings, many are still willingly blind and deaf and their vail yet not removed. Therefore it is written: “But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done away in Christ. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.

Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (2Co 3:14-18)

If people do not even come to the basic truth of Jesus Christ and His teachings, who will be the candidates of what Paul warned about: “Even him (Antichrist), whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” (2Th 2:9-12)

The confusion of the scattered mirror in the prophecies, created by expositors of Eschatology over centuries, became a dangerous ground as many pieces are even more scattered regarding the end-times, and it requires a sound and careful observation. Many are right in what they say, but create confusion in what they don’t say.

Yes, there is a lot to say about the scattered view of the rapture (harpazō), the millennium, Israel, etcetera, but as we are standing close to events in preparation for Christ Jesus’ return, it is important to observe the proses to what Pauls said in 2 Thessalonians 2 about the falling away and the strong delusion God will send.

The problem is not God, but if a nation wants evil leaders, God will send them evil leaders. If they want ear tinkling preachers, God will send them ear tinkling preachers. The truthful and sincere believer would not compromise the Gospel, to please and accommodate the world and they will contribute to the falling away and the strong delusion which will follow.

Just as with Jannes and Jambres, things are playing out the same way and not many can see that within the church preachers will resist the truth, because they were men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. The most important of all deceptions are to imitate the last day’s events, by distorting the timing of these events.

If you have, for example A-millennium view, you most probably believe that the church is preparing the bride for the coming of Christ Jesus and not that He will come with His victorious bride. We will “meet the Lord in the air” for the Bhema judgement “and so shall we ever be with the Lord” (1Th 4:17), because it is clear what John saw: “And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.” (Rev 20:4)

The “Kingdom Now” view is held by most of the A-millennium viewers and again, it is not necessarily wrong in what they say, but what they don’t say or displace. In almost all these views, the view of the temple is historical and preteristic fulfilled in 70AD in order to proof their view of the A-millennium. If Jesus mentioned the temple (3rd temple) in Matt. 24:15 and it is historical and preteristic, how come that Paul distinctively refers to it as crucial for the upcoming and appearance of the Antichrist?

Observe that he directly link it to the return of Christ Jesus; the falling away and the temple: “Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together (episunagōgē) unto him,

That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except

[1] there come a falling away first, and [2] that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in [3] the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.” (2Th 2:1-4)

Paul direct link creates no doubt what the circumstances will be before the return of Christ Jesus. The rebuilding of the 3rd temple will be one of the major events, as it is already in process, to be observed as the beginning of the 7 year reign by the Antichrist. Both Jesus and Paul take this as signs of His coming to be observed.

However, for us now is to observe the “falling away” and the deception that is part of the process, like Jannes and Jambres, con-artists are preparing the way for the Antichrist, like John the Baptist did for Jesus Christ. Surely the Kingdom Now believers, some Calvinists and others are right about some things, but are wrong in their timing as we see the temple and the two witnesses in Rev 11 as a precondition for these events.

[1] Important indicators

The temple

“And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and the angel stood, saying, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein. But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.” (Rev 11:1-2)

The two witnesses

“And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.” (Rev 11:5-6)

Clearly it concurs with the prophecies: “And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Act 2:17-21/ Joel 2:28-32)

The two witnesses’ testimony will be for a thousand two hundred and threescore days (3½ years) “And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.” (Rev 11:7)

What is the danger then if the timing is wrong and “Jannes and Jambres” of our time do some of the same “signs and wonders” as the “two witnesses” and what is prophesied: “And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke.” The same illusion applies as that of “Jannes and Jambres” by promoting “signs and wonders” which the Antichrist will apply. Let’s look at this deception:

[2] Con-artists – “Jannes and Jambres”

“And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.” (Rev 16:13-14)

“And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.” (Rev 13:13-15)

It also relates, for example, to the world’s approach regarding marriage and food, Paul wrote: “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron.” (1Ti 4:1-2)

[3] Replacement Theology

Although there is more to it, it is important to focus on Israel, as many see Israel outside the equation of the Bride and the Church. Were the gentiles church (wild olive tree) elected or called out of the gentile nations and crafted into the good olive tree? God didn’t change and His promises towards His elect (Israel) remain the same. In reference to Rom. 11, please observe:

“The LORD called thy name, A green olive tree, fair, and of goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.” (Jer 11:16)

Did God ever call Himself the “husband” of the gentiles, but through them He would be called the God of the whole world? “For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called. For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God.

For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer.” (Isa 54:5-8)

If we then take these two passages into account, what about Israel if we look at Rom. 11 in total and what the conclusion is:

“For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob: For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.

As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes. For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

For as ye in times past have not believed God, yet have now obtained mercy through their unbelief: Even so have these also now not believed, that through your mercy they also may obtain mercy. For God hath concluded them all in unbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.” (Rom 11:25-32)

The role of the temple and the two witnesses will play out with Israel at the end of the last days. As Israel is referred to as a green olive tree (Jer 11:16), the two olive trees referred to in Rev. 11, might as well refer to the church and the remnant of Israel who believes in Jesus Christ. It is also clear what the lampstands in Rev. 1 means and it could also be both Israel and the believing gentiles which will be part of the tribulation after their testimony.

Israel’s tribulation as referred to by Jesus Christ (Matt. 24) is without any doubt confirmed as part of the end of the last days events in bearing witness before the return of Christ Jesus: “And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.” (Dan 12:1-3)

Although we should see some of the mysteries yet to be unveiled as if images in a darkly mirror, the spirit of the age is to scatter the mirror even more and to distort true and sincere believer’s views. Clearly not all has been revealed yet, as it was said to John: “And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not.” (Rev 10:4)

However, as things are unfolding, we are assured as in Daniel: “But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” (Dan 12:4)

As we are sincere in the end-time events, all we can do is to take the scattered mirror pieces in the prophecies and put it together in in the right order to be forewarned and that we can discern in the timing of events. And most of all to honour the Name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour, by preaching the true gospel of Jesus Christ. Maranatha, come Lord Christ Jesus.

(Hennie van Heerden has a wealth of knowledge of God’s Word. I am often amazed by his ability to present applicable Scriptural references regarding any issues I raise on social media. Knowing him is a blessing and a gift from God and I personally experience him as a great mentor in my spiritual growth.)

THE CALLING OF A WATCHMAN

The word “watchmen” is translated from the Hebrew word shamar or shomer. It appears 468 times in the Scripture and is translated “watchman” eight times. Other alternate translations are keep, guard, guardian, keeper, watch, observe, heed, or preserve.

“On Your Walls O Jerusalem I Have Appointed Watchmen; All Day And All Night they Will Never Keep Silent. You Who Remind the Lord Take No Rest For Yourselves.” (Isaiah 62:8).

It was Isaiah who first prophesied that God would raise up watchmen concerning the forthcoming events in the history of the Hebrews. As the events prophetically predicted by Isaiah unfold, we indeed see God calling the Prophet Ezekiel as the most prominent watchman in the scriptural usage of the word “watchman” (Ezekiel 3:17, 33:7), and it is Ezekiel that biblically best demonstrates what a watchman is and what he does.

Watchmen were critical for many reasons. In the Bible, watchmen would pray for repentance in the city (Ezekiel 18:30-32). They were called to wake up the city from its apostasy (Hosea 8:1) and turn from destruction (Amos 3:6). Praying watchmen provided protection from invasion (Jeremiah 4:5) and reported any sign of danger approaching the city (II Samuel 18:24-27).

THE BIBLICAL WATCHMAN, EZEKIEL

In Ezekiel 3:17-21, the underlying spiritual aspect of the watchman is emphasized. In Ezekiel 33: 2-9, the watchman warns of a physical threat.

Ezekiel 3:17-21

17 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me: 18 When I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, that same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand. 19 Yet, if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul. 20 “Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die; because you did not give him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; but his blood I will require at your hand. 21 Nevertheless if you warn the righteous man that the righteous should not sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live because he took warning; also you will have delivered your soul.” 17 Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.”

Ezekiel 33:2-9

2 “Son of man, speak to the children of your people, and say to them: ‘When I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from their territory and make him their watchman, 3 when he sees the sword coming upon the land, if he blows the trumpet and warns the people, 4 then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning, if the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be on his own head. 5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, but did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But he who takes warning will save his life. 6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.’ 7 “So you, son of man: I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore you shall hear a word from My mouth and warn them for Me. 8 When I say to the wicked, ‘O wicked man, you shall surely die!’ and you do not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand. 9 Nevertheless if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul.”

According to Finis Jennings Dake, a watchman is one who looks out or sees from a height, with the view to warning of impending danger or to give any information, good or bad. The Lord often called priests and prophets to be a watchman. The duties of the watchmen were threefold: to wait and watch for what God would command and give in warning, to watch over the people, and to warn the people for God. Ezekiel’s prophetic calling was a great weight. Because the responsibility of warning the wicked sinner and the fallen righteous is not to be taken lightly.

Notice that Ezekiel is primarily concerned with fulfilling his responsibility before God. His primary concern is not whether people take heed, panic or fall back into apathetic slumber, but that he has fulfilled his duty to warn them. Their response remains their own responsibility.

CHRISTIANS ARE TO BE WATCHMEN IN THE END TIMES

With the continual threat of division, darkness, and terrorism presently in the world, watchmen are critical to warn others of the coming of the seven years of tribulation. In fact, it is felt to be a mandate from the throne of God! Any Christian who has a heart for God and a heart for others, and who is willing to humble themselves before God with a pure heart is encouraged to pray about being a part of this call.

Jesus said the End Times would be even crueler and more violent than the time He walked the Earth. He said, “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.” (Matthew 24:37) And what characterized the times of Noah? We read in Genesis 6, “The LORD saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.”[8] and “The earth also was corrupt before God, and the Earth was filled with violence.”[9]

The role of the watchman is described in scripture in both the Old- and New Testaments. In a key parable, Jesus shows how a Christian may be commissioned by Christ as a dedicated watchmen, while at the same time Christ emphasizes that every believer is to have the attitude of a watchman.

The context of Jesus’ parable in Mark 13 shows there are signs of perilous times related to the close of this age. As we see many of these signs all around us today, we understand the rapture of the Church may be close at hand, though we are shown in scripture not to be “date setters” trying to predict the exact day. Contemporary evangelical pastors, such as Jack Hibbs of Calvary Chapel Chino Hills, are increasingly recognizing the importance of being informed of current events and see the need for taking a stand in society. Hibbs is a regular speaker at the Watchmen on the Wall conferences in Washington, D.C. where critical issues are raised, while at the same time there is a reassurance of our encouragement and hope in Christ and in His coming.

In Jesus’ parable of watchmen in Mark 13, the main event is the anticipated return of the “the Son of Man”, a term Jesus used to describe Himself: “For the Son of Man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch.”[1] The King James Version of the Bible uses the word porter to describe this watchman. In some translations, this watchman is called a doorkeeper(NASB) or a gatekeeper(NLT). In one form or another, the porter serves three parties: the master of the house, the inhabitants of the house and the guests who come to visit the house.

In Jesus’ time, the Romans occupied Israel and the main threat to the Jews and the early Church was not an invading army. Information of critical news came by way of word-of-mouth and the door keepers, and those who sat at the gates of the city would be in the know. Today, threats to the community are ascertained instantly by way of the Internet and radio. Christians who consistently review news and events are serving as modern-day watchmen. Because Christians emphasize truth and integrity and are often willing to stand for truth courageously, many non-Christians are interested in the news Christians have to share.

Though the doorkeeper has the main responsibility to watch in the parable, Jesus emphasizes in the conclusion of the parable that all Christians are to have the attitude of watchmen in the End Times, especially as we await an important main event, Christ’s return to rapture the Church: “And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.”

PRECONCEPTIONS ARE HARD TO OVERCOME

Noah warned the people of a great disastrous flood while people had never even seen rain before. Most people were apathetic. This condition is called the “normalcy bias” and was a reason why so many Jews refused to leave Germany before being killed. When you go against the grain to warn people, most people will be apathetic, some will appreciate it, and others may even become angry. We see all three of these reactions when we warn people. Some Christians believe the Church is supposed to “feed the sheep” and that’s it. But if all we do is feed the sheep and don’t warn them of danger, all we’re really doing is just fattening them up for the kill. We shouldn’t be dogmatic in assuming our role and responsibility before God is the same as another person. Christian attitudes towards End Times prophecy range from disdain to obsession, but there is a healthy medium to be found.

To be a watchman today requires overcoming some serious obstacles, such as the mind-numbing effects of mainstream media and the dumbed-down public education system. Psychologists have also labeled a certain kind of mental inertia and coined “the normalcy bias” that describes people who believe nothing really dangerous is ever going to happen, no matter what kind of facts you may present.

POSITIVE ENCOURAGEMENT IS IMPORTANT

Though we understand the End Times are a time of heightened trials, there are scriptures that emphasize we are to encourage one another with the blessed hope of the rapture of the Church and our ultimate unity with Christ.

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18)

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” (John 14:1-3)

PRESENTLY, THERE’S A GROWING MOVEMENT

In addition to the blogs and websites sprouting up with a watchmen theme, there are organizations, such as “Watchmen on the Wall” that focus on equipping pastors to be watchmen in their communities. The mission statement of Watchmen on the Wall states:

“Watch what is going on in the culture. Pray for the wisdom to engage biblically, courageously, and winsomely. Sound the Alarm from the pulpit. Take a bold stand with others to defend and advance faith, family, and freedom.”

Conclusion

As Christians, we are all called to be watchmen in attitude, if not in service in these End Times, according to the teachings of Jesus. We should be careful of criticizing believers who have been called by God to focus on research regarding critical information and warning others. There is no sense in living ignorantly. And the desire to stand for truth and to be “valiant for the truth” (Jeremiah 9:3b) still finds common ground among many people of diverse backgrounds.

WHY BIBLE PROPHECY IS IMPORTANT

Bible prophecy is one of the most ignored topics in churches today and pastors avoid it like a plague. They usually assert that it is either too controversial or too difficult to understand. Some even claim it has no relevance to Christian’s living today. The result is that almost one-fourth of God’s Word has been put on the shelf, and the average Christian ends up living with no anticipation or even yearning for the Lords’ soon return.

There are two areas of God’s Word that have been terribly ignored and abused in the history of the Church. They are the opening and the conclusion of the Bible — the books of Genesis and Revelation. They spiritualize the Bible by claiming that it doesn’t really mean what it says. But, the abuses of Bible prophecy apply to more than just the book of Revelation. It applies to all of God’s prophetic word, and that is a shame, because the study of Bible prophecy is very important for many reasons.

There are eight key reasons why all Christians should be interested in studying God’s Prophetic Word. This should be done without adding to or taking away from it (Revelation 22:18-19).

1. QUANTITY

As mentioned, approximately one-fourth of the Bible is prophetic in nature. In the Old Testament, you have the major prophecy books like Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel and all the Minor Prophets. Plus, you have the Psalms. Many of the Psalms are also prophetic in nature.

Then in the New Testament and you have entire books like 1 and 2 Thessalonians, the book of Revelation, and huge passages like Matthew 24 and Luke 21.

What we are told in 2 Timothy 3 is that all Scripture, including prophecy, is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness that the man of God may be adequate equipped for every good work. Don’t take one-fourth to one-third of God’s Word and put it on the shelf. Study it. It will bless you (Revelation 1:3 and 22:14)..

2. UNIQUENESS

Fulfilled prophecy is a unique characteristic of the Bible. There is no other religion or book in the world that contains fulfilled prophecies. Did you know for example there’s not one fulfilled prophecy in any of the sayings of Confucius or Buddha? There is not one fulfilled prophecy in the Koran, the Hindu Vedras or in the book of Mormon. Only the Bible contains fulfilled prophecy.

Isaiah 41:22-23 challenges other religions and their gods, “‘Let them bring them forth, and shew us what shall happen: let them shew the former things, what they be, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or declare us things for to come. Shew the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods: yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together.”

3. VALIDATES SCRIPTURE

Scripture. Prophecy attests to the supernatural origin of the Bible. Prophecy proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Bible is God’s revelation to man.

In Isaiah 13, as an example, he prophesied that Babylon will fall to the Medes and the Persians. When Isaiah wrote this prophecy, Babylon wasn’t even a world empire. The world empire was the Assyrians. Or, consider Micah 3:12 where it was prophesied that Jerusalem would become a heap of ruins and that the Temple Mount would be plowed. That was written 100 years before Jerusalem was destroyed and the Temple Mount was plowed by the Babylonians.

Jesus also was a prophet. It was 40 years later in 70 AD that Jerusalem and the Temple fell, just as Jesus prophesied.

There are many prophesies about the return of the Jews to their land and after approximately 2000 years, Israel became a nation again on 14 May 1948.

4. VALIDATES JESUS

Bible prophecy validates Jesus as who He said He was, that He was God in the flesh.
Look, for example, at Micah 5:2. This is probably one of the best known prophecies about the First Coming of the Messiah. It says that the Messiah will be born in the town of Bethlehem. This was written 500 years before Jesus was born.

Psalm 22 is about the Crucifixion. Verse 16 says the Messiah will die by having His hands and His feet pierced. That was written 1,000 years before Jesus Or, look at the book of Zechariah.

There are approximately 330 prophecies in the Hebrew Scriptures concerning the First Coming of the Messiah, but if you take out all the repetitive prophecies, it leaves you with 109 separate and distinct prophecies.

5. TOOL FOR EVANGELISM

Bible prophecy is a tremendous tool of evangelism. The very first Gospel sermon ever preached is found in Acts 2, where Peter preaches. All he did in that sermon was saying, “The prophets said the Messiah would do this.” That is all Peter’s sermon is — one prophecy after another. Suddenly the people interrupted him and asked, “What must we do to be saved?” They were convicted by the teaching of Bible prophecy and him showing them that Jesus had fulfilled prophecy.

Or, consider Philip and the Eunuch. Philip is given a horizontal rapture. He is taken over to another road. He sees this Ethiopian eunuch coming down the road reading a big scroll. He stops and they start talking. The Eunuch asks, “What is this scroll?” He quotes from it. What’s the passage? It’s Isaiah 53. Philip asks, “Do you understand it?” The Eunuch replies, “I don’t understand it.” Philip said, “Let me explain it.” He explains how Yeshua (Jesus) was the fulfillment of Isaiah 53. The man is baptized and then goes on his way rejoicing.

6. STIMULUS FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH

Prophecy is a great stimulus for spiritual growth in two areas. First, Bible prophecy provides hope. The average Christian has very little hope. In terms of trying to define hope, just ask the average Christian, “What is your hope?” And they’ll say, “My hope is to go to Heaven.” You then ask, “Okay, what is Heaven?” Suddenly they become very inarticulate. Are you going to have a body? Going to have a name? Going to be recognizable? Are you going to eat? You going to work? You going to create things? Where are you going to be? Are you going to be on a cloud playing a harp? Are you going to be on the ground? Are you going to be in the New Jerusalem in the ground, or the New Jerusalem out in space? Thhe Bible answers every one of these questions asked.

The more you know about Bible prophecy the greater your hope will be. Promise after promise after promise after promise is made to us as overcomers, and we need to know those promises and live in the hope and expectation of those promises.

Second, Bible prophecy motivates holiness. Almost every passage in the New Testament that talks about prophecy says, for example in 1 John, to focus your life upon the return of Jesus Christ. Think about the return of Jesus Christ, because as you think about the return of Jesus Christ you will purify yourselves.

7. UNDERSTANDING OF CURRENT EVENTS

Bible prophecy provides an understanding of current events. There is no way you can understand why there is so much decay in society today unless you know what the Bible says about that. Jesus prophesied that before He returns, it would be as in the days of Noah. We are seeing that happening before our very eyes.

Consider this apostasy in the Church. Who would ever dream just 20 years ago that we would live in an age when denominations would be endorsing homosexuals as bishops of their churches, and even advocating marriage between homosexuals? Some self-proclaimed Christians now even question the virgin birth, the crucifixion and the resurrection of Christ. Just think about the Emergent Church Movement who are just taking the Word of God and throwing it out claiming, “There’s not really any truth. We just have got to be touchy-feely about doctrine. We mustn’t be judgmental. We mustn’t be intolerant.” Truth is going out the window! Paul said it would be a perilous time, where many would have a form of godliness but would reject the power thereof.

There is no way you could even begin to understand what is going on the Middle East today unless you know something about the history of Israel from the Word of God and His promises to Israel. The fact that Israel has an everlasting covenant for that land God has never taken it away. The deed to that land belongs to them. You can’t begin to understand all the conflict that is going on there today unless you get into Bible prophecy.

8. REVEALS THE SEASON OF THE LORD’S RETURN

Finally we need to study Bible prophecy because it reveals the season of the Lord’s return. Nobody can know the date or the hour, but beyond a shadow of a doubt we can know the season.

1 Thessalonians 5 says. “Now as to the signs and the seasons, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you for you yourselves know full well that the Day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.” Unfortunately, most pastors and self-proclaimed Christians stop there. If you read on, it says, “But you, brethren, you believers, are not in darkness that the day should overtake you like a thief. For you are sons of light, and sons of day. We are not of night or darkness, so then let us not sleep as others do, but let us be alert and sober.” Because we have the Holy Spirit residing inside of us, we can understand things from the Word of God that others cannot understand, like the season we are living in. For those who know Bible prophecy, He is not coming like a thief in the night.

Look at Hebrew 10:25: “Do not forsake the assembling together as is the habit of some. But encourage one another, and all the more as you see the day drawing near.” It is the Day of Judgment. In verse 27 it is saying that there is something we can see. There is something that can be perceived, and of course those are the signs of the times.

Or, consider what Jesus said in Matthew 24:33, “Even so, when you see all these things…recognize that He’s near right at the door.”

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF JERUSALEM

The important revelations to humankind through events in JERUSALEM will be resumed at the Second Coming of Christ.

JERUSALEM, WHERE GOD PUT HIS NAME ON

Almost a thousand years before Christ, king David conquered JERUSALEM from the Jebusites, moved to the new city from Hebron and declared it the capital of Israel. Three names were used for the city, i.e. ‘JERUSALEM’, ‘Zion’ and ‘the City of David’. ‘JERUSALEM’ means ‘Founded Peacefully’. God has chosen JERUSALEM as the city where He has put His name on forever.

David wanted to build a house for the Lord’s name in JERUSALEM, but God said that David’s son would do that (2 Samuel 7:12-13). After having built the temple, God said to Solomon: “And the LORD said to him: “I have heard your prayer and your supplication that you have made before Me; I have consecrated this house which you have built to put My name there forever, and My eyes and My heart will be there perpetually.” (1 Kings 9:3).

In 1 Kings 11:36 God once again said, “And to his son I will give one tribe, that My servant David may always have a lamp before Me in JERUSALEM, the city which I have chosen for Myself, to put My name there.” that JERUSALEM is “the city which I have chosen Me to put My name there.” Psalm 48:2 calls it “the city of the great King.”

HISTORY AFTER THE TEMPLE OF SOLOMON

Solomon built the first temple there and the glory of God entered it. God was worshipped in the temple and He revealed Himself to Israel through the service of the priests and prophets. As long as the people served God and obeyed His commandments, JERUSALEM would be a safe fortress.

However, times of spiritual decay set in, leading to the neglect of the temple service in JERUSALEM. A few God-fearing kings restored the temple service during their reign, after which decline only once again sets in. Due to the persistent apostasy of the nation and their leaders, the glory of God eventually departed from the temple and He surrendered them to their enemies. During the Babylonian siege in the 6th century BC, the city and the temple were plundered and destroyed and many of the Jews taken captive to Babylonia.

These events did not terminate God’s eternal commitment to JERUSALEM. After seventy years of captivity Israel was restored to their land, they rebuilt the temple and re-instituted the temple service. Then once again, apostasy set in, leading to the departure of the glory of the Lord. After Malachi, there was a four hundred year long ‘prophetic silence’ in Israel as God sent no prophets during this time. Relying only on their own strength, Israel could not prevail against their enemies. The temple became completely dilapidated and fell into ruins while spiritual darkness prevailed in Israel.

Since about 40 BC, Herod the Great ruled as king over Judea. To win the favour of the Jews, while also intending to suppress their messianic expectation, Herod built a new temple in JERUSALEM. This temple was known as the second temple and temple service was again instituted.

JERUSALEM AND THE FIRST COMING OF THE MESSIAH

By far the most significant revelation of God to Israel and the whole world was the birth of His Son, Jesus, from Jewish parents. In JERUSALEM Christ proclaimed the message of eternal life and taught in the temple. However, the majority of the leaders and inhabitants of the city rejected Christ. In doing so, they brought great sorrows and peril over themselves.

During the triumphal entry of Jesus into JERUSALEM, He was moved to tears because of the dire consequences of Israel’s spiritual blindness:
“Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it, saying, “If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side, and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.” (Luke 19:41-44)

In a planned betrayal of Jesus He was falsely accused, arrested, tried and convicted innocently in JERUSALEM. The Jewish leaders insisted upon His crucifixion so strongly that the Roman governor, Pilate, conceded to their request for the sake of popularity among the Jews.

Christ was crucified just outside JERUSALEM in the stone-quarry of Solomon. Here He made atonement for our sins by paying the price for the transgressions of a lost humanity to God. He was buried outside the gates of JERUSALEM but rose from the dead three days later. On the Sunday of His resurrection He preached in JERUSALEM in what can be describes as the first service of the dispensation of the Christian church. A week later the second sermon was delivered (John 20:19-29). Just prior to His ascension from the Mount of Olives forty days after His resurrection, He gave the Great Commission to His disciples.

That ministry would only commence after something very important happened in JERUSALEM. Jesus said to them:
“ Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at JERUSALEM. And you are witnesses of these things. Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of JERUSALEM until you are endued with power from on high.” (Luke 24:46-49).

That was the promise of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit: “ But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in JERUSALEM, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8). On the day of Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit was poured out over the disciples, the process of world evangelism began. On that day, three thousand souls were saved and became members of the church of Christ in JERUSALEM.

From that day onwards, the gospel of salvation would be preached in JERUSALEM and beyond, even to the uttermost ends of the earth.

THE CONTINUED ROLE OF JERUSALEM

Many people, especially those who follow Covenant theology (just another form of Replacement theology) argue that the divine purpose of JERUSALEM expired with the moving out of the disciples to preach the gospel in the rest of the world. They conveniently forget about God’s decision that His name would forever dwell in JERUSALEM. The long-term future of JERUSALEM was always, still is, and always will be securely fixed in the divine counsel and purposes of God.

To clarify this issue, we only need to study the Olivet discourse of Christ where He discussed the first and last generations of the present dispensation of grace between His first and second coming. Both these generations are identified in terms of events that have occurred (or will in future occur) in and around JERUSALEM.

The first generation started when the inhabitants of JERUSALEM rejected Jesus as their Messiah. It ended with the destruction of JERUSALEM by the Romans in 70 AD. After that, Israel was dispersed among the nations (the Diaspora).

During the times of the Gentiles (of unspecified duration) JERUSALEM is trodden down by the Gentiles while the gospel message is preached to all the nations on earth.

The last generation started with the restoration of Israel as a nation in 1948 and when Israel captured the Old City of JERUSALEM from Jordan during the Six-Day war in 1967. It will end when the Christ comes back to the Mount of Olives in JERUSALEM and the remnant of Israel accepts Him as their Messiah.

Regarding His rejection by the spiritually blinded Jewish leaders during the first generation of the dispensation of grace, Jesus said the following to them:
“Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers’ guilt.… that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. Assuredly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation. “O JERUSALEM, JERUSALEM, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! See! Your house is left to you desolate; for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’” (Matthew 23:32, 35-39).

The generation referred to by Christ includes the people who were alive when He made this pronouncement. Within the life-span of most of them, the prophecies about the destruction of JERUSALEM were fulfilled. Luke described the destruction of JERUSALEM and the dispersion of Israel as follows:
“But when you see JERUSALEM surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her. For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And JERUSALEM will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.” (Luke 21:20-24).
The first generation began with the rejection and crucifixion of Israel’s Messiah in JERUSALEM, and was terminated by the destruction of JERUSALEM. That was followed by the long Diaspora of Israel, during which time JERUSALEM was trodden down by the Gentiles. At the end of the time of world evangelism, when the gentiles had the opportunity to enter the kingdom of heaven, Israel, their land and their city JERUSALEM will again be restored. Physical restoration has already started in 1948 and spiritual restoration will take place during Daniel’s 70th week, also known as the time of Jacob’s trouble.

Paul wrote, For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: “The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob.” (Romans 11:25-26).

Before their national spiritual revival will occur, a time of severe testing and affliction awaits the restored Israel in their land, and particularly also in the city of JERUSALEM:
“Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Because you have all become dross, therefore behold, I will gather you into the midst of JERUSALEM. As men gather silver, bronze, iron, lead, and tin into the midst of a furnace, to blow fire on it, to melt it; so I will gather you in My anger and in My fury, and I will leave you there and melt you.” (Ezekiel 22:19-20).

The time of Jacob’s trouble, which is aimed at the spiritual revival of a remnant in Israel, form part of the events of the last generation of the present dispensation, at the end of which the Messiah will come back. This will be the time of Israel’s testing. Jeremiah says: “Alas! For that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it” (Jeremiah 30:7).

THE 70TH YEAR-WEEK

The last seven years of the last generation are described as the 70th year-week of Daniel (Daniel 9:24-27). That will be the tribulation period under the reign of the false messiah (Antichrist). Shortly after his revelation he will authorise the building of the third temple in JERUSALEM. In the middle of the seven year period he will declare himself to be God in the rebuilt temple, defile the sanctuary by having an image of himself placed there, and command all people to worship the image (Daniel 9:27; 2 Thessalonians 2:4; Revelation 13:14-15). Israel will be severely shocked and disillusioned when they realise that they accepted and worshipped a false messiah. They will break their covenant with him and flee to the wilderness. The ensuing 3½ years are described as the great tribulation (Matthew 14:15-22). God says: “…in their affliction they will seek Me early” (Hosea 5:15).

The Antichrist will be aware of the fact that the true Messiah will return to JERUSALEM at the end of the tribulation period of seven years, and for that reason he will deploy a multi-national military force in Israel to fight against Him. The Antichrist and his forces will be utterly defeated and destroyed on that day (Revelation 19:19-21).

JERUSALEM AND THE SECOND COMING OF THE MESSIAH

All nations will be gathered against JERUSALEM on the day of the Second Coming.
“Behold, I will make JERUSALEM a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and JERUSALEM. And it shall happen in that day that I will make JERUSALEM a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it. In that day,” says the LORD, “I will strike every horse with confusion, and its rider with madness; I will open My eyes on the house of Judah, and will strike every horse of the peoples with blindness. And the governors of Judah shall say in their heart, ‘The inhabitants of JERUSALEM are my strength in the LORD of hosts, their God.’” (Zechariah 12:2-5)

The remnant of Israel will also know from biblical prophecies that the Messiah will come to JERUSALEM to save them. During the siege of JERUSALEM they will go the Mount of Olives at the risk of their lives to await the arrival of Messiah:
“And His feet shall stand in that day upon the Mount of Olives, which is before JERUSALEM on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. And ye shall flee to the valley of the mountains; for the valley of the mountains shall reach to Azal: Yes, ye shall flee as ye fled from before the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah: and the LORD my God shall come, and all the saints with Thee… And it shall be in that day, that living waters shall go out from JERUSALEM; half of them toward the former sea, and half of them toward the hinder seas; in summer and in winter shall it be. And the LORD shall be King over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and His Name one…. And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against JERUSALEM shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles” (Zechariah 14:4-5, 8-9, 16).

Daniel says there will come a time for the people of Israel and the city of JERUSALEM “to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy” (Daniel 9:24). That time is fast approaching and will dawn at the end of the 70th year-week. Then the whole remnant of Israel will be reconciled with the Messiah and all of them will serve Him wholeheartedly:
“But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.” (Jeremiah 31:33-34).

There will be a moving reunion between Israel and their Messiah when they say to Him: “Blessed is He that cometh in the Name of the Lord.” That will only happen after the Holy Spirit has been poured out over the people of Israel who humbled themselves before the Lord:
“And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of JERUSALEM, the Spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon Me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for Him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for Him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn… In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of JERUSALEM for sin and for uncleanness… they shall call on My name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is My people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God” (Zechariah 12:10, 13:1, 9).

After Israel has been reconciled with Christ, He will also restore the throne of David in JERUSALEM. Then, the promise will be fulfilled which the angel made to Mary before the birth of Jesus: “He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David.” (Luke 1:32). Jesus never ruled from the throne of David, but after His Second Coming this promise will be fulfilled:
“After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof; and I will set it up: that the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my Name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things” (Acts 15:16-17; compare Amos 9:11-12 and Isaiah 16:5).

JERUSALEM AS WORLD CAPITAL

JERUSALEM will be made capital of the whole world. The Lord Jesus will be the King of kings and lasting peace will prevail everywhere:
“Many people shall come and say, “Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of the LORD from JERUSALEM. He shall judge between the nations, And rebuke many people; They shall beat their swords into plowshares, And their spears into pruning hooks; Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, Neither shall they learn war anymore.” (Isaiah 2:3-4).

“At that time JERUSALEM shall be called The Throne of the LORD, and all the nations shall be gathered to it, to the name of the LORD, to JERUSALEM. No more shall they follow the dictates of their evil hearts.” (Jeremiah 3:17).

Satan will be bound during the millennial reign of Christ and consequently be unable to deceive the nations into hating and fighting one another (Revelation 20:2-3). They will seek the favour of the Lord in JERUSALEM and also honour His people, Israel:
“Yes, many peoples and strong nations Shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in JERUSALEM, And to pray before the LORD.’ “Thus says the LORD of hosts: ‘In those days ten men from every language of the nations shall grasp the sleeve of a Jewish man, saying, “Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.” (Zechariah 8:22-23).

In the coming dispensation, JERUSALEM will be a city of brilliance and glory. Every child of God should earnestly look forward to this time of divine harmony and peace on earth when JERUSALEM will rise from the ashes of shame and deprivation:
“Awake, awake! Put on your strength, O Zion; Put on your beautiful garments, O JERUSALEM, the holy city! For the uncircumcised and the unclean Shall no longer come to you.” (Isaiah 52:1).

“Look upon Zion, the city of our solemnities: thine eyes shall see JERUSALEM a quiet habitation, a tabernacle that shall not be taken down; not one of the stakes thereof shall ever be removed, neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken. But there the glorious LORD will be unto us a place of broad rivers and streams… For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; He will save us” (Isaiah 33:20-22).

“And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and the kings to the brightness of thy rising… thy gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that men may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, and that their kings may be brought. For the nation and the kingdom that will not serve thee shall persih; yea those nations shall be utterly wasted… The sons of them that afflicted thee shall come bending unto thee; and all they that despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet; and they shall call thee, The city of the LORD, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel… Violence shall no more be heard in thy land, wasting nor destruction within thy borders; but thou shalt call thy walls Salvation, and thy gates Praise” (Isaiah 60:3, 11-12, 14, 18).

Because JERUSALEM will be a blessing to the whole world after the Second Coming of Christ and the setting up of His millennial reign, we should join Isaiah in exclaiming: “For Zion’s sake I will not hold my peace, and for JERUSALEM’s sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth” (Isaiah 62:1).

PRAY FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM

In these dark days of hostility and attacks against the City of God, we should constantly remind the Lord of His promises to bless JERUSALEM. He commanded us to intercede for JERUSALEM:
“I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O JERUSALEM, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence, and give Him no rest, till He establish, and till He make JERUSALEM a praise in the earth” (Isaiah 62:6-7).

We should never forget JERUSALEM as a place of divine revelation – not its past, neither its wonderful future. David said: “Pray for the peace of JERUSALEM: they shall prosper that love thee” (Psalm 122:6). The struggle for the control of JERUSALEM is a struggle between light and darkness. The Lord Jesus will return to JERUSALEM and rule the world from this city. That is why the kingdom of darkness does everything in its power to conquer JERUSALEM or to estrange it from Israel with a view to converting it into a heathen city.

Let us pray for the peace of JERUSALEM in the words and in the deep longing of the Jewish captives at the rivers of Babylon: “If I forget thee, O JERUSALEM, let my right hand forget her cunning. If I do not remember thee, let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth; if I prefer not JERUSALEM above my chief joy” (Psalm 137:5-6).

With inhabitants such as these during the coming millennium, ruled by the Messiah Himself, JERUSALEM will indeed be a blessing to the whole world.

THE NEW JERUSALEM

In the future creation of God there will be a new JERUSALEM in which all the saved ones will dwell. The apostle John said:
“Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New JERUSALEM, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” (Revelation 21:1-5).
Be sure that you are born again and by virtue of that a member of the bride of Jesus Christ and a future resident of the new JERUSALEM. You will then share in the eternal glory and joys of the kingdom of God. The great deeds of God’s salvation that were done and revealed in earthly JERUSALEM should be proclaimed in the whole world as that is the only doorway to heavenly JERUSALEM.

SIGNS OF THE SEASON

First, I would like to welcome and thank every one of you who has subscribed to the blog. Let us give glory to God, as there suddenly seem to be some good growth in the number of subscribers. While we await the return of Christ, we need to occupy and be about our Father’s business.

I am sharing another except from the first draft of my forthcoming book, “ON THAT DAY … LEAST EXPECTED.” Please note that quite a number of changes may still be required.

Matthew 24:36 tells us that nobody knows the exact day or the hour of the Second Coming, but then in Mathew 24:42 we are warned to be watchful. In Mark 13:37 we also read, “And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!” Throughout Scripture, God gave us many “clues” and signs. Luke 21:28 says, “Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”

Since the ascension of Christ, all or most generations saw some or many of these signs. It is however important to note that these signs are like birth pangs, continuously increasing in both intensity and frequency.

The sudden increase in earthquakes serves as an excellent example. According to an article published in the LA Times on 2 June 2014, a U.S. Geological Survey has studied the increase in earthquakes larger than 3.0 in the central and eastern United States in recent years. There have been more than 100 such earthquakes a year on average in the last four years of their study, up from 20 a year between 1970 to 2000.

Unfortunately, both the KJV and the NKJV translated “birth pangs” in the Greek Scripture, to “sorrows” in Matthew 24:8.

From A.W. Pink’s Studies in the Scriptures – 1922-23, Volume 1 of 17 we quote, “In the 4th chapter of this prophet (Jeremiah) there is a vivid description of the fearful afflictions which shall come upon the inhabitants of Palestine. Doubtless, what is there said received a tragic fulfillment in the past. But like most, if not all prophecy, this one will receive a later and final accomplishment. There are several statements found in it which indicate that it treats of the End-time. The plainest of these is found in the closing verse, where we read, “For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, and the anguish as of her which bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion.” It is the “birth-pangs” of Matt.24:8 (see Greek) which is in view.” End quote.

We are briefly looking at some of the most obvious signs of the end times.

1) Changes towards a new world order

The signs of decay and collapse of the existing world order cover a broad spectrum and affect all walks of life:
– Religious decay is responsible for the increased darkening of peoples’ minds, immorality and spiritual confusion.
– Social decay is seen in disintegrating social structures and the breakdown of marriages and the family values.
– Economic decay is evident in collapsing economies, poverty, unemployment, and rampant inflation.
– Political decay is seen in the acceptance of humanistic constitutions, anarchy, chaos, protests and violence.

The new world order will constitute the framework for the Babylonian system of the Antichrist described in the book of Revelation. It will consist of a one-world religion, a one-world society, a one-world economy, and a one-world government:
– Religious unity will be based on the deceptive idea that all religions worship the same God. This is already happening, with the Roman Catholic pope, Francis behind the steering wheel.
– Social unity among the internationalised planetary citizens will give further expression to the ideology of globalism. The worldwide reaction on social media to Donald Trump’s acceptance of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel serves as a good example.
– A centralised cashless economy will be established in which RFID chips and PIN numbers for all electronic funds transfer will be issued. Without the mark of the beast, nobody would later be able to buy or to sell.
– Political unity in the form of a world government and a global peace-keeping force will emerge. The “Climate change” summits provide a good opportunity while members of the Untied Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU) are losing their identity as sovereign countries. The EU is already working towards a single army for Europe.

This means that the world will be united in the political, religious and economic arenas under the leadership of the Antichrist. The world empire of the Antichrist is monism, which means everything is one.

A united world

Unity must first be established in the world by building bridges and eradicating boundaries in all spheres of life. The ecumenical movement promotes religious unity. Once you have changed people’s believe systems the rest is almost guarantee to follow. Social unity is built where people are non-sexist, non-racial, multi-religious, and multi-cultural. Political and economical power is internationalized which will ultimately lead to the founding of a one-world government and a global monetary system. These building-blocks of the new world order are regarded as critically important for the achieving of a false sense of harmony and peace, and consequently also for the emergence of the long-expected Utopia on earth.

These reforms would lay the foundation for the Antichrist to appear on the scene as a political world leader, a universal religious messiah, and the head of a world economy. In preparing the way, the false prophet would play a major role to obtain the buy-in from politicians, bankers, church leaders and other relative parties.

Cosmic unity

For the further development of man to higher levels of divinity, they would seek to make contact with spiritual entities and forces in the cosmos. People must be taught how to contact spirit-guides and masters of wisdom in cosmic spheres. Apart from spiritism and other techniques, transcendental meditation (TM) is regarded as one of the most effective methods of achieving an alternative state of consciousness and of becoming one with the cosmic world.

The false prophet will be highly exalted in the hierarchy of cosmic masters of wisdom. He will occupy the “right hand seat” of the Antichrist, and be able to perform amazing signs and wonders. He will even make fire come down from heaven and, according to Revelation 13:14, this sign will eventually deceive the nations into worshipping the Antichrist.

The role of Europe and the elite

The Antichrist will almost certainly rise from Europe from where he will initially rule the entire world before he eventually moves his headquarters to Israel. The Czech president Vaklav Hoval said in a major article written for U.S. News and World Report in 1990, that “Europe has been the cradle of a civilization that has shaped the history of the world for the last two thousand years. The spiritual impulses of antiquity Judaism and Christianity merged into a force that has forged the world as we know it. European civilization discovered, explored, conquered and dominated other continents and other civilizations. It has brought European thinking, enterprise and inventions to the remotest corners of the earth.”

Europe colonized the globe and the unified Europe leads to a unified world. European culture and apostate Christianity have simultaneously spread to the colonized countries. A worldwide foundation was laid to quite easily link the entire world back to Rome.

The revival of the old Roman Empire began with uniting Europe and the European Union is evident thereof. Eastern Europe was democratized and became a partner with Western Europe. Catholic popes first begged for a united Europe and now for world unity.

Trade agreements also linked Europe to other continents and countries across the globe, such as America, Canada, Japan, Asia and Africa. We see the unity between world leaders who participate in organizations such as NATO and the United Nations. This paves the way for the global political and economical system of the Antichrist.

To assist in Satan’s evil plan, the elite play a major role. An elite group of wealthy globalists and their interlocking network of transnational corporations, international banks, government agencies, foundations, and secret organizations are working to create a global government, cashless society, and universal religion as predicted in Scripture. These include people like George Soros, the Rothschilds and the Rockefellers. In general, globalism creates goals in the corporate environment. Academic then provides studies and white papers to justify these corporate goals. Political players sell the arguments of the academic to the public and if necessary, change laws to accommodate and facilitate Corporate in getting what it wants. Organized religion along with church and state secures corporate, academic and political rule into a global order.

Curriculums are changed in schools and God is no longer welcome. Parents no longer have the right to discipline their children and court cases are made against businesses who insist on maintaining Christian values. These globalists are often behind wars, riots, and protests, in the way they are currently using liberals, abortions, homosexuality, and racism in America and elsewhere in the world. Behind closed doors they discuss their plans at Bilderberg conferences. Themes such as climate change, aliens from outer space and more are being used to cause fear and give an excuse to draw world leaders and powers together. By creating chaos, the world is certainly looking for a leader to rise to solve the world’s problems.

When the chaos gets real bad and there are no answers and solutions left, the perfect conditions are set for the Antichrist to be revealed and be empowered by Satan. People will be willing to throw away their democracy and their freedoms just for peace. He will have great authority. The world will give him all of the authority he needs. As soon as the Church is taken out of this world, it will most likely be in a time of great chaos.

2) Falling away – Apostasy, false teachers and false prophets

The Bible tells us that there will be a great apostasy during the end times. The KJV calls it the “falling away,” while the ESV calls it “the rebellion.” That is what an apostasy is: a rebellion and an abandonment of the truth. The end times will include a large-scale rejection of God’s Word and even of God’s existence. Many warnings are given in the Bible against false doctrines, teachers, prophets and even false christs in the latter days.

Describing this aspect of apostasy and its underlying danger, A. W. Tozer wrote, “So skilled is error at imitating truth, that the two are constantly being mistaken for each another. It takes a sharp eye these days to know which brother is Cain and which is Abel.”

“Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.” (2 Thessalonians 2:3-4)

“Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared” (1 Timothy 4:1-2)

““But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived… having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.” (2 Timothy 3:1,5)

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.” (2 Timothy 4:3-4)

“Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.” (1 John 2:18-19)

Televangelists, the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR), Bethel Church and others, mainly in the Charismatic Movement, who preach the Prosperity gospel, are all good examples of apostasy in the days we are living in. They run their ministries for personal gain and unfortunately often rob those who are already in financial difficulties or in despair while giving them false hope.

But they are not the only ones in err, as there are also false doctrines being preached in other denominations. These teachings include, but are not limited to, conditional salvation, grace and faith plus works, partial or no rapture, and others by which they steal the joy and certainty of believers’ salvation or their blessed hope. Their objective is to imprison believers within boundaries of rules they themselves are not able to follow (Read Colossians 2:8-23 for Paul’s opinion on modern day legalists).

Another category are those who either treat the prophecies of our time as if they were already accomplished in history, or they give the prophecies an unbiblical allegorical meaning. They expect believers to trust in their superior intellect or advanced education instead of what the Bible teaches.

Signs and wonders

Churches and Christians who place a heavy emphasis on signs and wonders are playing perfectly in the hands of the false prophet as described in Revelation 13. Signs performed by false teachers and unbiblical prophecies by false prophets are greatly on the increase and being used as a tool for mass deception. This reminds of a warning in Deuteronomy 13:1-3:

“If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying: Let us go after other gods – which you have not known – and let us serve them, you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.”

Religious deception is wilful rebellion against God and all false prophets, teachers and their deceived victims are heading for eternal damnation in the Lake of Fire. Many of the Charismatic churches are performing these signs and wonders under the influence of deceiving spirits. They have “departed from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons” (1 Timonthy 4:1). Before the Great White Throne, they will in vain glory in their false ministries on the final day, but Christ will reply to them: “I never knew you; depart from Me…” (Matthew 7:23).

Take heed that signs and wonders do not replace the Word of God! Also beware of the so-called signs and wonders conferences and spectaculars. Satan is increasingly going to concentrate on signs and wonders and will use every available demon in his kingdom to this end. Because the Antichrist will get the credit for the greatest signs, wonders and manifestations of power, the whole world will marvel and follow him, saying: “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?” (Revelation 13:4).

The Emerging Church

One of the driving forces of the emerging church movement is a market driven strategy, similar to that used in a business. They identify the wants and needs of their target “customers” and adapt themselves accordingly.

The religious organization identifies the needs of our self-centred, self-sufficient generation, removes the focus away from Christ, and put it on the congregation. Entertainment replaces worship, philosophy replaces theology, and good works replaces holy living.

Borrowing a phrase from Dominion Theology they call it “bringing Heaven to Earth” to make it sounds more appealing to their target market. Little do their followers realize that for believers, these “good works” will be burned up in the fire (1 Corinthians 3:14-15), and for unbelievers they will be insufficient to enter into the kingdom (John 3:3). Commenting on their works in the letter to Laodicea, Jesus said, “I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.” (Revelation 3:15-16) They are excited about the great entertainment, the motivational talk and the good works, but they know little about God.

During the last couple of years, they drew many who had become bored with traditional Church and wanted a place where they could “feel good” and do good with no messages about sin and repentance.

Christ said the true Church would become weaker and less influential as the end approaches (Revelation 3:8). As the world moves further and further away from God, those of us who follow Him will naturally feel less comfortable and less welcome in most churches today. Our citizenship is in Heaven (Philippians 3:20) and we look for a city whose architect and builder is God (Hebrews 11:10).

In the meantime, we have to stop depending on organized religion to meet our needs as the gulf between religion and the Church is growing wider by the day. In many instances, the real Church is even being forced underground.

If you cannot find a God worshiping, Bible teaching church where you live, do not settle for whatever is available to you. Gather a small group of like-minded believers and worship at home. Paul and Timothy did not have a huge bureaucracy behind them. They did not have million dollar buildings or professionally designed programs. They did not even have the New Testament. Yet they found a way to worship God and to help others do the same.

Stop supporting churches and groups who are trying to bring “Heaven to Earth” and store for yourself treasures to Heaven. Also dig into prophecy. It is the single biggest topic in the Bible and be prepared like the five wise virgins.

Seven churches of revelation (Revelation 2-3)

Even in our traditional churches we see decay and a lack of discipline, faith and holiness. It is therefore always wise to be reminded of the messages from Christ, to the seven churches in Revelation 2-3.

a) Ephesus – The loveless church (Revelation 2:1-7)

The church of Ephesus had many positive qualities and Christ commended them on their dedication, determination, discipline, and discernment. (Revelation 2:2-3).

Revelation 2:4 however reveals that the church looked good on the outside, but inwardly they lost their love for Christ. “Nevertheless, I have this against you, that you have left your first love.”

“Remember therefore from where you have fallen” (Revelation 2:5). They needed to remember where they started and to repent and “… do the first works.” Often we are so busy with the things of God, that we actually forget about the God of these things.

b) Smyrna – The suffering church (Revelation 2:8-11)

There are churches in the world where persecution is a daily reality. The ancient church in Smyrna suffered because of pressure, poverty, and persecution (Revelation 2:9). Christians should be prepared for what might come as we see how God is being kicked out at schools, universities, by governments and more.

“Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer” (Revelation 2:10). Paul wrote that there is nothing that can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:35-39). Fear is a natural human response, but we live supernatural lives through the power of Christ in us.

“Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life” (Revelation 2:10).

c) Pergamos – The compromising church (Revelation 2:12-17)

Pergamos was nicknamed “Satan’s City.” The Christians in Pergamos were surrounded by pagan beliefs and practices and in spite of their faithfulness in some areas, they compromised their faith in others. They allowed idolatry to creep into their congregation.

We need to guard against the dilution of true doctrine by false teaching and authoritarian leaders.

d) Thyatira – The adulterous church (Revelation 2:18-29)

There are Christians and churches today who feel a need to be all-inclusive when it comes to spiritual and moral boundaries. The ancient church in Thyatira also allowed an immoral individual to lead many others away from Christ (Revelation 2:20).

When the prophetess refused the chance to repent, Christ warned of His judgement: “Indeed I will cast her into a sickbed.” (Revelation 2:22) This warning is not just to the prophetess but also to “those who commit adultery with her.” (Revelation 2:22-23) They would find themselves in “great tribulation” unless they repented of their immorality.

God is holy and will not abide rebellion forever. As Hebrews 10:31 says, “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”

To those who distance themselves from the adultery, Christ said, “Hold fast what you have till I come” (Revelation 25.) He basically promised that they would be raptured.

e) Sardis — The dead church (Revelation 3:1-6)

This church received no commendations and Christ begins immediately with a denunciation. “I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive, but you are dead.” The church today is also full of Christians in name only.

Christ gave five specific directions for the dead church.
– Be sensitive to the inroads of Sin in the church (Revelation3:2)
– Be supportive of those who remain true to Christ in the church(Revelation3:2,4)
– Be submissive to the control of the Holy Spirit in the church (Revelation3:3)
– Be subject to the authority of God’s Word in the church (Revelation3:3)
– Repent for the sin of the Church (Revelation3:3)
There is hope for those that do what Christ has directed. He promises eternal life for those that repent and submit to Him (Revelation 3:5).

f) Philadelphia – The faithful church (Revelation 3:7-13)

Christ commended the church in Philadelphia as they had an open door, they had a little strength (and depended on His strength), they have kept the Word of God, and they did not deny God.

g) Laodicea — The lukewarm church (Revelation 3:14-22)

The church in Laodicea was lacking in every way. It was a compromising, conceited, and Christless church and Christ said He would spew them from His mouth (Revelation 3:16). Today, many churches are in exactly the same boat.

The Laodiceans were rich, but their riches were worldly, not spiritual. They needed spiritual wealth which can only come through Christ (Revelation 3:18).

Nakedness in Scripture is a metaphor for defeat and humiliation, therefore Christ counsels them to procure “white garments” from Him that the shame of their nakedness might be covered (Revelation 3:18).

Christ still invites those who are living without Him in this late hour: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me” (Revelation 3:20). There will come a time when it would be too late to turn around. As we read in Isaiah 55:6, “Seek the LORD while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near.”

3) Perilous Times and Perilous Men

“But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!” (2 Timothy 3:1-5)

We only need to look around us to recognize how society has changed, especially over the last couple of years. Things such as lawlessness, violence, corruption, the lack of discipline in schools and even in churches have become part of daily living. Young children are exposed to pornography and the Illuminate on television and on the internet. The roles of men and women are no longer according to God’s ordained will and the list goes on and on.

It is interesting to note that all of the things Paul mentioned in essence link back to the very first thing on his list. People have become lovers of self and the love of many grew cold (Matthew 24:12).

Though this may not appear to be such a huge issue at first sight, one only need to look at the number of photos some people post of themselves on social media since the invention of “selfies.” Even worse, shamelessness and the nakedness are often exposed.

Paul did not merely describe the unbelieving world, as he said that these people have a form of godliness but deny its power. He spoke about those who are only Christians by name, living lives indistinguishable from unbelievers, grabbing all they can get from the material world, while contributing little or nothing to the work of the Kingdom.

Paul has not been blind to the behaviour of these people, nor was this the only time he warned us to stay away from them. This is what he said in 1 Corinthians 5:9-11.

“ I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people – not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one.”

Church discipline seems to become something of the past, even in most of the well-established denominations (Matthew 18:15–17).

Sadly, many self-professing Christians today also hide behind the excuse of “don’t judge me” to condemn those who correct them, while deep down inside they know that they are in conflict with God’s Word. The Bible does not teach us not to judge, but to judge fairly. In John 7:24 Christ said, “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment.”

We need to be discerning (Colossians 1:9; 1 Thessalonians 5:21) and speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15). Scripture actually instructs us to gently confront erring brothers or sisters in Christ (Galatians 6:1).

In addition, Christians and churches often defend unbelievers and organisations such as Planned Parenthood and the LGBT, which are an abomination to God.

There are numerous warnings against such practice. In Psalm 1:1 we read, “Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful” 2 Corinthians 6:14 says, “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?”

Isaiah 5:20 gives us a stern warning, “ Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”

4) Anti-Semitism and Jerusalem, becoming a heavy stone

The United Nations and Israel

“Behold, I am about to make Jerusalem a cup of staggering to all the surrounding peoples. The siege of Jerusalem will also be against Judah. On that day I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples. All who lift it will surely hurt themselves. And all the nations of the earth will gather against it.” (Zechariah 12:2-3)

Zechariah makes it clear that Jerusalem would be a burdensome stone for the nations. Although the passage actually relates to the very end of the Great tribulation, this is nothing new in the times we live in. The large number of resolution passed against Israel by the United Nations (UN) is absolutely irrational to say the least. Most of these resolutions, relate to Jerusalem. The anger of the entire world, after the American president, Donald Trump, declared Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in December 2017, provides a very good example. While the UN turned a blind eye to war-torn countries such as Syria and Yemen, they repeatedly questioned Israel’s rights to defend itself against Hamas terrorists on the Gaza border in April 2018, shortly before the 70th celebration of Israel as an independent state.

BDS

The Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, commonly known as BDS, says its objective is to utilize international pressure to end what it describes as “Israeli apartheid and its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands” and dismantling the security barrier separating Israel and the West Bank. Many Jewish and Israeli leaders see the effort as a discriminatory attempt to undermine Israel’s legitimacy as a Jewish state. The BDS operates from countries such as South Africa, Italy, France, and Chile.

Arabs, Muslims, and Palestinians

Many Arab countries make no secret that their goal is to sweep Israel and the Jews off the face of the earth. So-called Palestinians do not want a two-state solution; they are seeking to have all of Israel. The “holy” book of Islam, the Quran also instructs Muslims to go out and kill Jews (and Christians). Israel’s main enemy is Iran, who is the biggest funder of terrorism in the Middle East today. We are witnessing the aligning of the satanic front that will attack Israel during the Gog and Magog battle of Ezekiel 38. The presence of Russia, Iran, and Turkey in Syria, on the Golan Heights border of Israel provides more than adequate evidence of the times we are living in.

Replacement theology

Although the intention with Replacement theology may not be anti-Semitic according to those who practice it, it does have a very negative impact on the attitude of many Christians towards Israel and the Jews as we discussed in detail in section A.

In 1948, Israel was recognized as a sovereign state, essentially for the first time since AD 70. God promised Abraham that his posterity would have Canaan as “an everlasting possession” (Genesis 17:8), and Ezekiel prophesied a physical and spiritual resuscitation of Israel (Ezekiel 37). Having Israel as a nation in its own land is important in light of end-times prophecy because of Israel’s prominence in any biblical eschatology (Daniel 10:14; 11:41; Revelation 11:8).

5) Peace, safety and security

“While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.” (1 Thessalonians 5:3)

While the world is in chaos, world leaders often refer to “peace and safety” or “peace and security.” However, in most instances, this is a false sense of peace, created by the elite. The best example is the obsession of the world to seek for peace between Israel and the so-called “Palestinians.” Daniel 9:27 indicates that the 70th week of Daniel would officially start, once a peace treaty that involves the Antichrist is signed with many.

In a world, desperately looking for real peace, safety, and security, the Antichrist is going to be be well accepted once he is revealed.

6) Scoffers questioning the coming of Christ

The word scoffer denotes a person who is engaged in the act of jeering, scorning, or mocking. Sadly, many Christians also partake in mocking the possible soon return of Christ. They rely on human wisdom as evidence to the contrary. These are normally the lukewarm and those who find it hard to let go of the things of this world. In fact, they are following their own sinful desires.

“knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” (2 Peter 3:3-4)

“how they told you that there would be mockers in the last time who would walk according to their own ungodly lusts.” (Jude 18)

As mentioned earlier, these scoffers do not realize that the signs are like birth pangs, continuously increasing in intensity and frequency.

Sadly, there are also Christians who do believe in a Second Coming, but they use every attempt to steal the blessed hope from those who believe in the rapture of the Church.

7) The Olivet discourse of Jesus

Earlier on, in section A, we saw that the disciples asked three questions to Christ in Matthew 24 , of which the answer to the first question was discussed. Now we are looking at Christ’s answers to questions 2 and 3.
Question 2: What will be the sign of your (2nd) coming?
Question 3: What will be the sign of the coming of the End of the Age?

In Matthew 24:4-8 He tells us what would be the signs just before and during the tribulation. Note that Matthew 24:8 ended with, “All these are the beginning of sorrows (or birth pangs).”

“And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in diverse places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.”

As mentioned earlier, the correct translation of the Greek phrase archē ōdin (ἀρχή ὠδίν) is actually “the beginning of birth pangs.” The meaning of the phrase, translated in the KJV and the NKJV as “the beginning of sorrows” is therefore a direct reference to preliminary birth pangs that would increase to full-scale contractions and travail, which eventually leads to birth.

The Church Age would be characterized by the appearance of false messiahs, conflict between nations, natural disasters, famine, pestilence and great signs from heaven (Luke 21:11).

Jesus was simultaneously pointing his disciples to key passages from the prophet Isaiah. The first passage is in Isaiah 26, a portion of Scripture found in what is sometimes referred to as “Isaiah’s little apocalypse.” In Isaiah 26:16-18, we read that the expected “birth” of deliverance, redemption, and resurrection of Israel has not taken place yet, despite having endured the great suffering of labour:

“O LORD, they sought you in distress; they could only whisper a prayer, your chastening was upon them. As the pregnant woman approaches the time to give birth, she writhes and cries out in her labor pains, thus were we before you, O LORD. We were pregnant, we writhed in labor, we gave birth, as it seems, only to wind. We could not accomplish deliverance for the earth, nor were inhabitants of the world born.” (Isaiah 26:16-18)

The comparison to birth pains reveals that while these events would occur all through the Church Age, they would increase in frequency and intensity as the end draws nearer.

“THEN you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:9-14)

Matthew 24:4-14 provides an overview of the End Times that cover the period from the beginning of the birth pangs to the Second Coming.

Although believers were persecuted throughout the Church Age, persecution will become severe and even unbearable at the end. Therefore, the love of many will grow cold and they will leave the faith.

The fig tree – The generation

“Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see ALL these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. (Matthew 24:32-36)

These things did not happen during the lifespan of people alive in the days of Christ during His First Coming. Obviously, He referred to some future generation. He was telling the people on earth at the time of the end of the Age that when they see all these things begin to happen, including the Antichrist making his appearance in the temple, that they will enter the Great Tribulation and not escape from it. Once the signs begin to be observed, the the Second Coming and the judgement will occur within that last generation.

Jesus reinforced this meaning with a parable in Matthew 24:32–33: “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door.” A sure sign of summer is the leafing of the fig tree while a sure sign of the end of the world is that “all these things” are taking place. Those who were not raptured and are on the earth by then will only have a short time left.

Another interpretation is that the prophecy in Matthew 24 has a “double fulfilment.” In this view, it also refers to the people alive in the days during the First Coming of Christ. So, when the Romans destroyed Jerusalem in AD 70, the prophecy was fulfilled in part and the fall of Jerusalem provided a foretaste of worse things to come. However, many aspects of the entire prophecy did not occur in AD 70.

THE GREAT WHITE THRONE JUDGEMENT

I am now in the last few chapters of my forthcoming book, “ON THAT DAY … LEAST EXPECTED” and though I’ll share another except with you. If only unbelievers would realize what a dreadful eternity is awaiting them if they do not repent …

Jesus often referred to the eternal death of the wicked (Matthew 10:28; Matthew 13:40-42; Matthew 25:41, 46).

Sheol / Hades

Sheol is the Hebrew equivalent of a New Testament term Hades. All of the ungodly who died, as from the time of Adam until today, are right now in Hades or Sheol, in their eternal souls until their resurrection. Hades is rather a state where souls suffer than a place. But Hades is a temporary time and “place” of torment as we see in Luke 16:19–31 which tells of the relationship, during life and after death, between an unnamed rich man and a poor beggar named Lazarus.

In Revelation 20:13-14 death and Hades give up the dead as they go out of existence and the ungodly is thrown into the lake of fire.

In Hades the suffering is of the soul, but in hell it is even worse as the suffering soul will be in a resurrected body, fitted for eternal hell. Even those bodies in the sea will also be raised.

Timing of the judgement

2 Peter 3:8 says “But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. ” This is the very last bit of the period known as “The Day of the Lord.” We saw God’s wrath and judgements up to the end of the Great Tribulation. Then we had the thousand year pause during the Millennial Kingdom. Now the final judgement of the ungodly takes place.

In Revelation 20:5 it is said that the ungodly would not be resurrected until the end of the thousand years. “But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished…”

In Isaiah 30:30 the prophet said, “The Lord will cause His voice of authority to be heard and the descending of His arm to be seen in fierce anger and in the flame of a consuming fire.” God is coming in the judgment of fire.

The Great White Throne

After the Millennial Kingdom and Satan’s final rebellion against God, the Great White Throne will appear in heaven to judge the ungodly. Revelation 20:11 starts by saying, “ Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it”

Almost fifty times in the book of Revelation we find the mentioning of thrones. Throughout the book of Revelation God is the one sitting on the throne. But this is a throne of judgment and not the throne of heaven described in Revelation 4. It almost seems to be some specific judgment throne set up in the unseen realm and it is the final place of reckoning.

Psalm 9:7 says, “The Lord abides forever, He has established His throne for judgment and He will judge the world in righteousness, He will execute judgment for the peoples with equity.”

Involvement of the Father and the Son

In John 5:22 we read, “For not even the Father judges anyone but He has given all judgment to the Son.” He continues in John 5:26, “Just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself and He gave Him authority to execute judgment because He is the Son of Man.” Christ says in John 8:50, “I do not seek My glory, there is one who seeks and judges.” That would of course be God His Father.

But then in Revelation 3:21 it says, “He who overcomes I will grant to sit down with Me on My throne as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.”

Where God sits in judgment and in sovereignty, Christ sits there too. Remember in John 10:30 Christ said, “I and the Father are one.” Revelation 22:1 refers to, “Coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb.” Revelation 22:3 also says, “The throne of God and of the Lamb.” Christ and the Father are one and equally sovereign.

Resurrection of the ungodly

In John 5:28 it says, “Do not marvel at this, an hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs shall hear His voice and come forth, those who did the good deeds to a resurrection of life, and those who committed the evil deeds, to a resurrection of judgment.”

In Revelation 20:11-13 and 15, we see that the ungodly throughout all ages are being resurrected for the Great White Throne judgement. Jesus called it “the resurrection of damnation” or condemnation in John 5:29 while in Acts 24:15, Paul refers to it as “the resurrection of the wicked”. They will awake to shame and everlasting contempt and receive resurrection bodies, suited to suffer forever in hell.

No place to flee

In Revelation 20:11 John says that those from earth and the heaven fled away but no place was found for them. “ Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them.” At the beginning of the Millennial Kingdom, Christ reformed the earth. Mountains were flattened out and islands fled away. This is earth being uncreated as we read in Matthew 24:35 where Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away.”

In 2 Peter 3:10-13 it says, “ But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.”

It says the heavens will disappear and the elements will melt with intense heat. The earth and its works will be burned and totally consumed. In Isaiah 51:6 it says, “Lift up your eyes to the sky, then look to the earth beneath for the sky will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment and its inhabitants will die in like manner.” Earth and heaven were once created by God and it will be also be uncreated by Him.

The judgement takes place in the absence of earth and heaven as we know it, as it have just been destroyed by God. The Great White Throne must appear in some timeless and space-less realm or presence.

The books are opened

Daniel saw the same scene of judgement as John, in his vision in Daniel 7, where the Ancient of Days is taking His seat on the throne and the books are being opened. Daniel 7:9-10 says “I watched till thrones were put in place, And the Ancient of Days was seated; His garment was white as snow, And the hair of His head was like pure wool. His throne was a fiery flame, Its wheels a burning fire; A fiery stream issued And came forth from before Him. A thousand thousands ministered to Him; Ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him. The court was seated, And the books were opened.”

The book of life, is also mentioned in Revelation 3:5, Revelation 13:8, Revelation 17:8, Revelation 21:27 and Revelation 22:19.

Judgement according to the books

Revelation 20:12-13 says that they are judged according to their deeds and in Revelation 20:15 we read, “If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”

In Revelation 20:12 we read, “And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.” Luke 10:20 says, “Do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” Daniel 12:1 also refers to, “Every one who is found written in the book.” In Malachi 3:16 it refers to the books in this way, “Those who feared the Lord spoke to one another when they heard about judgment and the Lord gave attention and heard it. And a book of remembrance was written before him for those who fear the Lord.”

It is clear from these verses that God’s records distinguish between the godly and the ungodly and if a person’s name is not in the Book of Life, he will be judged at the Great White Throne. Revelation 20:15 says, “And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” In Matthew 25:46 we read, “These will go away into eternal punishment, the righteous into eternal life.”

Romans 2:5 warns, “You are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgments of God who will render to every man according to his deeds.” God thus keeps a detailed record of every human being’s life.

In Romans 2:16 we see that we cannot hide anything from God. “On the day when according to my gospel God will judge the secrets of me through Christ Jesus.” Luke 8:17 says, “For nothing is hidden that shall not become evident, nor anything secret that shall not be known and come to light.” Romans 2:16 calls it “the day when God will judged the secrets of men through Christ Jesus.”

The deeds of the ungodly will be measured against God’s perfect standard and law. Because they did not receive Christ as their Saviour, they will be judged on every standard they did not meet. Hebrews 10:29 asks the question, “Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?” Romans 2:5 says, “By your stubborn and unrepentant heart you are piling up wrath against yourself for the day of wrath.” Every thought, word and deed will be judged. Therefore, everyone’s punishment will be consistent with his record, as God is a righteous judge.

A good example of the variation in the level of punishment is found in Mark 12:38-40. “ Then He said to them in His teaching, “Beware of the scribes, who desire to go around in long robes, love greetings in the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts, who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will receive GREATER CONDEMNATION.””

In Luke 12:47 Christ said, “And that servant who knew his master’s will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.”

The just and righteous judgement of God

This judgement may sound unjust to the natural man as he does not realize how sinful he really is, but God’s final judgment is a very just and righteous judgment. Job 37 :23-24 says, “As for the Almighty, we cannot find Him; He is excellent in power, In judgment and abundant justice; He does not oppress. Therefore men fear Him; He shows no partiality to any who are wise of heart.”

God cannot be unjust as His holiness and perfection are the sources of His justice. He is just because it is His nature to be just. In modern day “Christianity,” they created for themselves a god who only blesses, who is not holy, who looks over their sin and leaves them to have “their best lives now.”

Acts 17:30-31 says, “Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead.”

Many of the lukewarm would be surprised as we see in Matthew 7:21-23. ““Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’”

A description of hell

Hell is the final destination of the ungodly after the White Throne judgement. It is often being referred to as the second death and is synonymous with the lake of fire. It is a “death” in that it is a separation from God, the Giver of life. It is called the “second” one because it follows physical death. In 2018 the false prophet, Pope Francis of the Roman Catholic “church,” even surprised the Catholics when he declared that there is no such thing as hell and that the ungodly would simply dissolve!

In Matthew 8:12, Matthew 22:13 and Matthew 25:30 hell is called a place of outer darkness. 2 Peter 2:17 and Jude 13 refers to it as the blackness of darkness. Both Isaiah 66:24 and Mark 9:48 say their worms will not die.

In Matthew 3:12 John the Baptist says when Christ comes He will burn up the ungodly with unquenchable fire.

Isaiah 66:24 says, “And they shall go out and look on the dead bodies of the men who have rebelled against me. For their worm shall not die, their fire shall not be quenched, and they shall be an abhorrence to all flesh.”

Luke 13:28 mentions that there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 8, Matthew 22, Matthew 13, Matthew 25 and Matthew 24 are all referring to the weeping and the wailing.

It is no wonder Hebrews 10:31 says, “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”

Good news to the redeemed

There is good news in 2 Peter 3:13 for the redeemed at the first resurrection, “Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.” Isaiah 65:17 says, “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind.”

The redeemed will not remember the past because our memories of the past would be tainted with sin. Hebrews 1:10-12 says, “You, LORD, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You remain; And they will all grow old like a garment; Like a cloak You will fold them up, And they will be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will not fail.”

UNDERSTANDING REVELATION 12

As from early 2017, many Christians and especially scholars and watchmen of end time prophecies, were very excited about an arrangement of celestial bodies that was going to occur on 23 September 2017. Many even took their excitement as far as predicting that the rapture of the Church would have taken place on that date. According to various Internet sources, the heavens themselves would have been a tableau of Revelation 12:1-2. What very few actually knew, was the fact that this very same sky scene has also been seen at 4 other occasion during the past 1 000 years, in 1827, 1483, 1293, and 1056.

“Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth.”

On 23 September 2017 the sun was in the zodiac constellation Virgo — “a woman clothed with the sun.” The moon was at the feet of Virgo — “with the moon under her feet.” The ‘nine’ stars of the zodiac constellation Leo, plus three planets (Mercury, Venus, and Mars), were at the head of Virgo — “on her head a crown of 12 stars”. The planet Jupiter was in the center of Virgo, and, as the weeks pass after September 23, Jupiter would have exited Virgo to the east, past her feet, so to speak.

The simplest way to understand Revelation 12-14 is to see them built around the six main characters. There are a woman, a dragon, a male child, the archangel Michael, the beast from the sea and the beast from the earth. The saved remnant may be considered as a seventh.

The first four of these characters are described in Revelation 12 and the latter two in Revelation 13-14.

The first fall of Lucifer

As a name for the devil, the more common meaning in English, “Lucifer” is the rendering of the Hebrew word הֵילֵל in Isaiah 14:12 given in the King James Version. This Bible version took the word from the Latin Vulgate, which translated הֵילֵל by the Latin word lucifer (uncapitilized), meaning “the morning star,” “the planet Venus”, or, as an adjective, “light-bringing”.

The story of Lucifer’s first fall is described in two key Old Testament chapters, namely Ezekiel 28 and Isaiah 14.

The first ten verses of Ezekiel 28 deals with the prince of Tyre (who was condemned for claiming to be a god though he was just a man). The historic ruler, or prince of Tyre was probably a tool of Satan, and even indwelt by him.

Then the discussion moves from the prince to the king of Tyre, starting in verse 11 and on through verse 19. Lucifer now becomes the focus of discussion.

Ezekiel 28:12b-15 describes Lucifer before the fall.
“You were the seal of perfection, Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, Beryl, onyx, and jasper, Sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes Was prepared for you on the day you were created. “You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, Till iniquity was found in you.”

It tells us that he was a created being and left the creative hand of God in a perfect state. He remained perfect in his ways until iniquity was found in him.

In Ezekiel 28:17 we see how the sin of self-generated pride corrupted him and contributed to his fall, “Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor.” Lucifer apparently became so impressed with his own beauty, intelligence, power, and position that he began to desire for himself the honour and glory that belonged to God alone.

Apparently, this represents the actual beginning of sin in the universe, preceding the fall of the human Adam by an indeterminate time. Sin originated in the free will of Lucifer in which he chose to rebel against the Creator.

He was rightfully judged by God, “I threw you to the earth” (Ezekiel 28:18). However, other Scripture clearly indicate that Satan maintained this access even after his fall (Job 1:6-12 and Zechariah 3:1-2). But, Ezekiel 28:18 indicates that Satan was absolutely and completely cast out of God’s heavenly government and his place of authority (Luke 10:18).

Isaiah 14:12-17 is another Old Testament passage that may refer to the fall of Lucifer, although some scholars see no reference whatsoever to Lucifer in this passage. It is argued that the being mentioned in this verse is referred to as a man (Isaiah 14:16) and compared with other kings on the earth (Isaiah 14:18).

Isaiah 14:12 nevertheless says, “How you have fallen from heaven.” The description of this being is also beyond humanness and hence, could not refer to a mere mortal man.

There is a third view that seems preferable to both these views. This view sees Isaiah 14:12-17 as having a dual reference. It may be that Isaiah 14:4-11 deals with an actual king of Babylon. Then, in Isaiah 14:12-17, we find a dual reference that includes not only the king of Babylon but a typological description of Lucifer as well.

The Woman, the Child, and the Dragon

“And a great sign appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, and a moon under her feet and on her head a crown of twelve stars. And she was with child and she cried out being in labor and in pain to give birth. And another sign appeared in heaven and behold a great red dragon having seven heads and ten horns and on his heads were seven diadems. And his tail swept away a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth so that when she gave birth he might devour her child. And she gave birth to a son, a male child, who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron and her child was caught up to God and to His throne. And the woman fled into the wilderness where she had a place prepared by God so that there she might be nourished for one thousand, two hundred and sixty days.” (Revelation 12:1-6)

Since the fall of Lucifer, the “son of the morning,” he became Satan the devil and the archenemy of God. There has been a constant war going on throughout the universe between Satan and his demons and God and His angels. The earth has become the featured center for most of the battles.

When Satan fell, he dragged a third of the angels into the warfare with him and he deceived Adam and Eve, dragging the human race into the war as well. This war against God will finally culminate in the end of time when Jesus Christ defeats him and his demons once and for all and casts them in to the pit.

The conflict reaches its climax in the time of the Great Tribulation. Satan will amass his greatest efforts against God, against Christ and against believers. There will be war and tribulation all over the universe like never before, nor will ever be thereafter.

Revelation 12:1-5 take us back to the beginning, back to Eden and even before that in heaven. It contains a very brief comment on the fall of Satan and the effect thereof on man in the fall of man.

Satan hates God and does everything he possibly can to thwart God’s purposes. First, he attempted to destroy the paradise of heaven and led a mutiny against God among the angels. Then he attempted to destroy the paradise of earth and led a mutiny against God among men. One of his greatest desires is also to destroy God’s plan for the eternal rule and reign of Jesus Christ.

The woman

In Revelation 12:1 we meet a woman, “And a great sign appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet and on her head a crown of twelve stars and she was with child and she cried out being in labor and in pain to give birth.”

This is the first of seven signs mentioned in the last half of the book of Revelation. A sign means something is occurring that points to something else. When we see a sign in prophetic literature, it is something symbolic of a reality. So when we see a woman appearing in heaven, the woman is not to illustrate a literal woman, but is symbolic of some other reality.

First of all, it is important to note that there are four symbolic women in Revelation.
– The first one is in Revelation 2:20. She is given the name Jezebel and she symbolizes sinful, wicked paganism. She is representative of those who teach people to commit adultery.
– The second woman is the one in the sign in heaven in Revelation 12.
– The third woman is found in Revelation 17. She is a scarlet woman, a whore or a harlot and she represents the apostate church.
– The fourth woman is called the wife of the Lamb, and she represents the church in Revelation 19:7.

This second woman in Revelation 12:1 represents Israel. Israel is frequently depicted as the wife of God throughout the Old Testament. Although she is a disloyal, unfaithful and adulterous wife, in the end God will bring her back to faithfulness.

Some have suggested that the woman here in Revelation 12 represents the church, but nowhere in the Bible is the church ever referred to as a woman of a wife, and especially not one giving birth. When the church is spoken of in feminine terms, it is always being called a bride. The church does not become a wife until the marriage supper of the Lamb in Revelation 19. 2 Corinthians 11:2 says, the church is a bride waiting for the marriage.

The seventieth week of Daniel in Daniel 9 relates to Israel and God has made an irrevocable promise to Israel to give them a kingdom. We read about Israel’s salvation in Zechariah 12-14 and in Romans 11. God’s plans through all of redemptive history have at their very heart the nation Israel.

Satan hates Israel and the Jews most of all nations. If he could have managed to destroy Israel, he would have wiped out God’s entire plan.

The woman is clothed with the sun and the moon under her feet and on her head a crown of twelve stars. Genesis 37:9 has an almost identical description. The passage deals with the life of Joseph. He was in some ways the beginning of the nation of Israel. Although the covenant was initially given to Abraham, Jacob’s name was changed to Israel and his son Joseph was one of the first real offsprings of Israel.

We read about one of Joseph’s dreams as from Genesis 37:9 , “Now he had another dream and related it to his brothers and said, `Lo, I have had still another dream and behold the sun and the moon and the eleven stars were bowing down to me.’ And he related it to his father and to his brothers and his father rebuked him and said to him, `What is this dream that you have had? Shall I and your mother and your brothers actually come to bow ourselves down before you to the ground?’ And his brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept this saying in mind.”

Later on Joseph became a leader in the land of Egypt and eventually his entire family bowed to him. The sun represents Jacob, the moon represents Rachel, and the eleven stars bowing down represent his eleven brothers.

The sign in Revelation 12 may vary a little bit but has much the same imagery. Now we see twelve stars, but the twelfth back in Genesis 37 was Joseph himself. The twelve stars now crown the head of the woman. The sun and the moon is under her feet.

The fact that the woman is clothed with the sun speaks of the glory, brilliance and dignity of a redeemed Israel that is going to be lifted up and exalted in the end. The moon under her feet could also refer to nothing more than exaltation, or could relate to Israel’s covenant relationship, since the moon was so central in the cycle of their worship. They worshiped in their yearly cycle through a series of new moons and feasts, festivals and Sabbaths were associated with them.

The crown of twelve stars on her head is a kind of garland or a crown associated with suffering and struggle. The twelve stars refer to the twelve tribes of Israel.

Israel, the woman, was prefigured in the life of Joseph. Joseph and Israel were sold to Gentiles, enslaved in captivity, buried among the nations, yet prominent, preserved, delivered, saved, given authority and given a kingdom.

Revelation 12:2 says, “Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth.” Israel is now depicted as a woman about to give birth and she is in pain. This is a very familiar imagery in the Old Testament, as seen in Isaiah 26, 54 and 66, Hosea 13 and Micah 4 and 5.

The pain can be associated with Israel’s suffering for centuries and their longing for their Messiah. They long for the “Child” that would eventually come and destroy Satan and his allies and would bring the promised kingdom.

The dragon

We meet the dragon in Revelation 12:3-4, “And another sign appeared in heaven and behold a great red dragon having seven heads and ten horns and on his head were seven diadems. And his tail swept away a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth and the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth so that when she gave birth he might devour her child.”

Satan is not a real dragon but a fallen angel and a spirit being. He is called a dragon thirteen times in the book of Revelation. The term dragon fits into the category of the Hebrew language where you get the word Leviathan, sea monster, a massive creature more awesome than a snake or a serpent. In ancient times a dragon was associated with the sea.

His red colour represents him as fierce, cruel, vicious, and deadly, but it also speaks of bloodshed. The dragon is identified as Satan as seen in Revelation 12:9, “And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan.”

The description of the dragon says he has seven heads and ten horns and on his seven heads are seven diadems or royal crowns.

We will learn more about this description, later on in Revelation 17:9 where it says, “The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits, and they are seven kings, five have fallen, one is and the other has not yet come and when he comes he must remain a little while, and the beast which was and is not is himself also an eighth and is one of the seven and goes to destruction.”

In short, the seven kings represent seven worldly kingdoms, all the way to the end. Satan reigns over all of them. We also find the ten horns in Revelation 17:12, “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings.” Horns represent strength and power. Daniel 7 describes the final form of world rule in an imagery of ten kings. Daniel 7:24 says, “As for the ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings will arise.” Satan is thus represented as dominating the world.

Daniel 8:24 also talks about the final form Satan’s rule will take on, “Destroying to an extraordinary degree, and he will destroy mighty men and the holy people.” He has always been after God’s people. First of all Israel, and certainly in the end time the church as well.

Satan stole, killed and destroyed right from the beginning. 1 John 3:12 reminds us of Cain who killed Abel when he says, “Not as Cain who was of the evil one, and slew his brother.” In Genesis 6, he sent his demons in some bizarre cohabitation with women to produce an unredeemable race that God then had to drown in the Flood.

Satan tried to take Israel captive and to eliminate ten tribes. Though the captives from the north never returned, representatives from all ten tribes had filtered into the south and so all twelve tribes are still intact. He tried to destroy the Jews through pagan kings and God used judges to deliver them. The dragon tried to get Saul to murder David and end all messianic hope through the line of David and he could not succeed. Haman became Satan’s tool to attempt genocide, but the nation was saved by Esther and Haman was executed on his own gallows.

His desire was always to exterminate the woman, the line of Messiah in one way or another. He was never successful but Israel went through much pain because of his efforts.

Revelation 12:4 says that his tail swept away a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. It symbolizes third of the angels, which amounts to millions of them. He also uses these demonic angels, as well as his earthly agents, the ungodly from the nations, against Israel.

Revelation 12:4 continues by saying, “The dragon stood before the woman just waiting, who was about to give birth so that when she gave birth he might devour her child.” He had all these efforts to try to wipe out the line, but could not succeed, so then he wanted to destroy the child, Jesus Christ.

Herod was the agent of Satan trying to wipe out the Messiah, before He could accomplish His work. In Matthew 2:13 we read, “Herod’s going to search for the child to destroy Him. So they took the child and His mother by night and departed for Egypt and there was a place there for them to remain until Herod died. When Herod saw that he had been tricked by the Magi, he became enraged and sent and slew all the male children in Bethlehem, all its environs from two years old and under according to the time which he had ascertained from the Magi.”

In modern days, the woman was and is still being attacked, even after the child is born. One of the worst events was when Hitler massacred almost six million Jews during the Holocaust. Today, Muslim Arabs would do anything to wipe the Jews from the face of the earth.

The male child

“She gave birth to a son, a male child who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron and her child was caught up to God and to His throne.” (Revelation 12:5)

This refers to the birth of the Christ, the Messiah, the Son of God. In Isaiah 7:14 we find a prophecy about the birth, “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.” Jesus was a Jew, the Son of Abraham, from the tribe of Judah, and a descendant of David.

This child will rule all the nations with a rod of iron, as we also see in Psalm 2. This will come to pass in Revelation 19, when Christ returns.

In the last part of Revelation 12:5 it says, “Her child was caught up to God and to His throne.” This of course refers to the ascension of Christ. Satan could not stop Him from being born or from accomplishing redemption. Christ is therefore exalted to the right hand of the Father as our perfect Saviour. Neither would Satan be able to stop the Millennial Kingdom of Christ. Sadly, many Christians such as the Amillennials are denying this kingdom, thereby almost exalting Satan.

From eternity past to the Great Tribulation

From Revelation 12:1-5 to Revelation 12:6, we move from eternity past and the fall of Satan all the way to the end of the Tribulation. It says, “Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.”

“Now when the dragon saw that he had been cast to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male Child. But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent. So the serpent spewed water out of his mouth like a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away by the flood. But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the flood which the dragon had spewed out of his mouth. And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” (Revelation 12:13-17)

Satan will be going after the woman during the time of the Tribulation, but God is going to hide her. This is exactly what was spoken of by Jesus in Matthew 24:21, “Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.”

Many from Israel will be fleeing out of the land when the Antichrist desecrates the Holy of Holies, sets himself up as God and starts the slaughter against the Jews. The “wilderness” always used to be Moab, Ammon and Edom, just east over the Jordan River, across the Dead Sea, as indicated in Daniel 11, Isaiah 16 and Isaiah 26.

Most scholars believe that the Jews will be hiding in a place the prophet Isaiah called Sela or Petra. It is the city of the dead in Edom, that can only be entered through an opening fit for one individual at a time. Inside you find a massive city carved out of the rock walls.

God will nourish them and it is probably here where many Jews would be saved right up until the end. Revelation 12:14 says, “ But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent. ”

This indicates that there might be some special flights taking them way off to where they will hide.

Satan Thrown Out of Heaven … again

“And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon and the dragon and his angels waged war. And they were not strong enough and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan who deceives the whole world, he was thrown down to the earth and his angels were thrown down with him. And I heard a loud voice in heaven saying, `Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down who accuses them before our God day and night. And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even to death. For this reason rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them. Woe to the earth and the sea because the devil has come down to you having great wrath knowing that he has only a short time.’” (Revelation 12:7-12)

Even until today, Satan has never been in hell and he is not some kind of ruler or “king” of hell as many Christians might think. Subsequent to the tribulation, Revelation 20 tells us that he will be bound in the bottomless pit for a thousand years, after which he will be released for a short while and then be thrown into the lake of fire without any judgement hearing. As a matter of fact, he is going to be the lowest being in hell and be assigned the most horrible punishment of any creature ever made.

It may come as a surprise to many Christians, but currently, Satan still spends most of his time, in heaven. Revelation 12:10 says that he is there day and night, accusing Christians before the throne of God about their unworthiness. He knows perfectly well how to interpret the Bible because he was the covering cherub, Lucifer, before his fall. He is there to tell God of our sins and failures, trying to convince God that He ought to let us go to hell. He wants to capture us for his own dominion of darkness. Ultimately, he wants to show God that he can destroy salvation and takes us out of God’s hands.

Furthermore, he and his demons are continuously waging war against Michael and the holy angels. Satan has been identified as the prince of the power of the air and the god of this world, engaged in controlling world systems of religion and government.

He wants to bring about the unification of the whole world under his rulership and prevent Christ from coming back to establish His kingdom, both millennially on the earth and eternally in the new heavens and the new earth.

This battle continues on a supernatural level between the angels and on the earth on all moral, ideological, theological, and philosophical levels. This war is going to reach its climax in the Tribulation, after the church has been raptured.

In Revelation 12:9 the great dragon and his demonic angels are thrown down from heaven to earth for a second time. The arrival of Satan and all of his fallen minions are going to cause absolute destruction the earth.

Satan is actually already a defeated foe as he was destroyed at the cross and through the resurrection of Christ. The fact of his defeat occurred at the cross, the actual execution or sentencing is yet to happen. Romans 16:20 says, “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.”

Even though he was defeated at the cross, he is still alive, 1 Peter 5:8 tells us to be sober and vigilant because the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 1 John 5:18:19 says the whole world lies in his lap.

The Archangel Michael

War in heaven is playing off in Revelation 12:7-9. “And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon and the dragon and his angels waged war and they were not strong enough and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”

Revelation 12:7 happens right at the beginning of the tribulation. However, this war started with the first fall of Lucifer, it has been going on throughout the ages and still continues into the Tribulation. That is why Satan is also known as the prince of the power of the air. Ephesians 6:12 calls his demon hordes spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenlies.

Hebrews 1:14 says the angels are sent to be ministers of the people of God. Satan wants to thwart the angelic ministry. Also when God dispatched holy angels to assist Israel in the Old Testament, he interfered. We also see how the work of the angels is attacked in the modern day churches as part of Satan’s plan to develop a false one-world religion. In Matthew 13, Jesus said, “When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart.”

The grammar and the structure of the Greek lends to the conclusion that Satan started the event in Revelation 12:7. John MacArthur makes this very interesting point that this event might have be triggered by the Rapture of the Church. The Rapture takes place prior to the seven-year Tribulation and in Revelation, the church is represented in heaven by the twenty-four elders. They are taken from earth in the twinkling of an eye and go through the domain of the air, passing through the kingdom of darkness. Satan and his demons could just as well be aroused to hinder the believers from reaching into heaven.

Michael is always associated with war and conflict. He is not a messenger angel but a warrior. A good example is in Daniel 10, where the angel who was stuck for twenty-one days from delivering his message, is assisted by Michael to overcome the demon that controlled the prince of Persia. He assisted because he wanted to send this other angel on the way to Daniel. He was concerned about God’s people Israel of whom Daniel represents.

According to Daniel 12 Michael will be standing guard over the Jews during the time of the Tribulation. Daniel 12:1 says, “At that time Michael the great prince who stands guard over the sons of your people will arise.”

In Jude 9 we read, “ Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!” Now remember that Moses was never allowed to enter the promised land. He could only look at it from where he was standing in Moab, where he also died. Apparently he died alone and God then sent Michael because the devil wanted Moses’ body.

In Jude 9, Michael is called the archangel. Interesting to note that in 1 Thessalonians 4:16 it is said that during the rapture, “The Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with a voice the archangel.” It is therefore not impossible that Michael would be confronting Satan and his demons if they try to thwart the Rapture. This could then trigger the war in heaven in Revelation 12. Matthew 25:41 also mentions that Satan and his angels were waging war.

Michael and the holy angels win the battle, and Satan and all of his hosts are casted out of heaven down to earth. Revelation 12:8 says, “No longer was any place found for them in heaven.” This is the end of the time of Satan as prince of the power of the air.

In Revelation 12:10 we read, “I heard a loud voice in heaven saying, `Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come for the accuser of our brethren has been cast down, who accuses them before our God day and night.”
Periodically throughout the book of Revelation heaven there is praising because of what is happening. This time they are praising because Satan is thrown out. Michael and his holy angels in the power of God are triumphant. Satan can no longer accuse the redeemed before the throne of God because he no longer has access.

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. 12 Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.” (Revelation 12:11-12)

They do not only rejoice over what happened in heaven, but also over what is happening on earth. When Satan tries to destroy and slaughter all of the believers as well as the nation of Israel, he is defeated. They overcame Satan because of the blood of the Lamb. Their sins were covered and no accusation would stand against the suffering saints of the Great Tribulation or against any believer in any age.

Secondly, they were faithful and devoted to Christ even in a world engulfed by demons and cursed by God, and their testimony never wavered. This is the idea of an ongoing testimony.

The Tribulation saints did not love their life even to death. In Matthew 24:13 Jesus said that those that are enduring to the end will be saved.

Revelation 12:12 ends with a warning because Satan has come down with great wrath knowing that he has only a short time left to steal, kill and destroy.

ISAIAH – THE LITERAL TRUTHS ABOUT ISRAEL

There will always be a small remnant of Jews, preserved by God’s sovereign grace that preserved, obeyed, and passed on God’s law. Through this remnant of Jews, God will honour the Abrahamic Covenant.

God will gather these Jews and bring them back to their promised land (as already begun in 1948). They will be freed from their foreign oppressors. The first return of Israel to her land was from Egyptian captivity. The second will be from her worldwide dispersion.

Instead of their miserable state of captivity, endured in the tribulation under Antichrist, the Israelites will be the rulers of those nations that once dominated them, during the millennial reign of Christ.

The redeemed remnant will sing praise to God over their impregnable city, Jerusalem.

The book of Isaiah provides a more than enough evidence to back this issue.

“If the LORD of hosts had not left us a few survivors, we should have been like Sodom, and become like Gomorrah. I will turn my hand against you and will smelt away your dross as with lye and remove all your alloy. And I will restore your judges as at the first, and your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you shall be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city.” Zion shall be redeemed by justice, and those in her who repent, by righteousness.” (Isaiah 1.9,25-27)

“And he who is left in Zion and remains in Jerusalem will be called holy, everyone who has been recorded for life in Jerusalem,” (Isaiah 4:3)

“And though a tenth remain in it, it will be burned again, like a terebinth or an oak, whose stump remains when it is felled.” The holy seed is its stump*. (Isaiah 6:13)

*Note: Though most will reject God, the tenth, also called the “stump” and “holy seed,” represents the faithful remnant in Israel who will hear and believe.

“In that day the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no more lean on him who struck them, but will lean on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God. For though your people Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. Destruction is decreed, overflowing with righteousness. For the Lord God of hosts will make a full end, as decreed, in the midst of all the earth. For in a very little while my fury will come to an end, and my anger will be directed to their destruction. And in that day his burden will depart from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck; and the yoke will be broken because of the fat.” (Isaiah 10:20-23,25,27)

“In that day the Lord will extend his hand yet a second time to recover the remnant that remains of his people, … He will raise a signal for the nations and will assemble the banished of Israel, and gather the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth… And there will be a highway from Assyria for the remnant that remains of his people, as there was for Israel when they came up from the land of Egypt.” (Isaiah 11:11-14,16)

“For the LORD will have compassion on Jacob and will again choose Israel, and will set them in their own land, and sojourners will join them and will attach themselves to the house of Jacob. And the peoples will take them and bring them to their place, and the house of Israel will possess them in the LORD’s land as male and female slaves. They will take captive those who were their captors, and rule over those who oppressed them. “I will rise up against them,” declares the LORD of hosts, “and will cut off from Babylon name* and remnant, descendants and posterity,” declares the LORD.” (Isaiah 14:1-2,22)

*Note: Israel will have a remnant, but not Babylon, according to the Lord’s promise.

“In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: “We have a strong city; he sets up salvation as walls and bulwarks.” (Isaiah 26:1)

“In that day the LORD of hosts will be a crown of glory, and a diadem of beauty, to the remnant of his people,” (Isaiah 28:5)

“And the surviving remnant of the house of Judah shall again take root downward and bear fruit upward. For out of Jerusalem shall go a remnant, and out of Mount Zion a band of survivors. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this.” (Isaiah 37:31-32)

“you whom I took from the ends of the earth, and called from its farthest corners, saying to you, “You are my servant, I have chosen you and not cast you off”;” (Isaiah 41:9)

“Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east, and from the west I will gather you. 6I will say to the north, Give up, and to the south, Do not withhold; bring my sons from afar and my daughters from the end of the earth,” (Isaiah 43:5-6)

“Listen to me, O house of Jacob, all the remnant of the house of Israel, who have been borne by me from before your birth, carried from the womb; even to your old age I am he, and to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save.” (Isaiah 46:3-4)

“And now the LORD says, he who formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob back to him; and that Israel might be gathered to him— for I am honored in the eyes of the LORD, and my God has become my strength. Thus says the LORD: “In a time of favor I have answered you; in a day of salvation I have helped you; I will keep you and give you as a covenant to the people, to establish the land, to apportion the desolate heritages, Behold, these shall come from afar, and behold, these from the north and from the west, and these from the land of Syene.” Thus says the Lord God: “Behold, I will lift up my hand to the nations, and raise my signal to the peoples; and they shall bring your sons in their bosom, and your daughters shall be carried on their shoulders.” (Isaiah 49:5,8,12,22)

“And the ransomed of the LORD shall return and come to Zion with singing; everlasting joy shall be upon their heads; they shall obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.” (Isaiah 51:11)

“For a brief moment I deserted you, but with great compassion I will gather you. 8In overflowing anger for a moment I hid my face from you, but with everlasting love I will have compassion on you,” says the LORD, your Redeemer. “ This is like the days of Noah to me: as I swore that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you, and will not rebuke you. For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,” says the LORD, who has compassion on you.” (Isaiah 54:7-10)

“When you cry out, let your collection of idols deliver you! The wind will carry them off, a breath will take them away. But he who takes refuge in me shall possess the land and shall inherit my holy mountain. I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will lead him and restore comfort to him and his mourners,” (Isaiah 57:13-18)

“Lift up your eyes all around, and see; they all gather together, they come to you; your sons shall come from afar, and your daughters shall be carried on the hip. For the coastlands shall hope for me, the ships of Tarshish first, to bring your children from afar, their silver and gold with them, for the name of the LORD your God, and for the Holy One of Israel, because he has made you beautiful. (Isaiah 60:4,9)

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; [1] he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion— to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he may be glorified. They shall build up the ancient ruins; they shall raise up the former devastations; they shall repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many generations. Instead of your shame there shall be a double portion; instead of dishonor they shall rejoice in their lot; therefore in their land they shall possess a double portion; they shall have everlasting joy.” (Isaiah 61:1-4,7)

“Thus says the LORD: “As the new wine is found in the cluster, and they say, ‘Do not destroy it, for there is a blessing in it,’ so I will do for my servants’ sake, and not destroy them all. I will bring forth offspring from Jacob, and from Judah possessors of my mountains; my chosen shall possess it, and my servants shall dwell there. Sharon shall become a pasture for flocks, and the Valley of Achor a place for herds to lie down, for my people who have sought me.” (Isaiah 65:8-10)

“Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall a land be born in one day? Shall a nation be brought forth in one moment? For as soon as Zion was in labor she brought forth her children. Shall I bring to the point of birth and not cause to bring forth?” says the LORD; “shall I, who cause to bring forth, shut the womb?” says your God. and I will set a sign among them. And from them I will send survivors to the nations, …that have not heard my fame or seen my glory. And they shall declare my glory among the nations.” (Isaiah 66:8-9,19)

THE PURPOSE AND BENEFIT OF UNDERSTANDING PROPHECY

Between a fourth and a third of the Bible is prophecy. Some of its longest books, such as Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Daniel are prophetic. Other books, such as Genesis, Psalms and Paul’s epistles, also contain important prophecies.

One of Jesus Christ’s longest recorded discourses, found in Matthew 24, Mark 13 and Luke 21, is an extensive prophecy given shortly before He was crucified. At the end of the Bible we find the book of Revelation, a series of prophetic visions describing the period from the early Church up through Christ’s return and beyond.

Prophecy is thus important to God and Scripture reveals a number of key purposes thereof.

Prophecy reveals the greatness of God

Prophecy reveals God’s greatness and power to inform us of the future. In Isaiah 42, He connects His creative power with His ability to reveal the future long before it happens:

“Thus says God the LORD, Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it, Who gives breath to the people on it, And spirit to those who walk on it: I am the LORD, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another, Nor My praise to carved images. Behold, the former things have come to pass, And new things I declare; Before they spring forth I tell you of them.” (Isaiah 42:5, 8-9).

Prophecy can be viewed as God exercising His creative power in the dimension of time, by foretelling the future and then bringing it to pass when, where and how, according to His will.

Prophecy gives evidence that God exists and that the Bible is His revealed Word

Throughout the centuries, people denied the reality of God, preferring to believe that He does not exist. In the first century Paul wrote that people “did not like to retain God in their knowledge,” since accepting His existence interfered with acting out their selfish and evil desires (Romans 1:28-32).

But God offers this challenge to any who would doubt Him:
“Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel, And his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: ‘I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me there is no God. And who can proclaim as I do? Then let him declare it and set it in order for Me, Since I appointed the ancient people. And the things that are coming and shall come, Let them show these to them. Do not fear, nor be afraid; Have I not told you from that time, and declared it? You are My witnesses. Is there a God besides Me? Indeed there is no other Rock; I know not one.’” (Isaiah 44:6-8).

History itself is a witness that God foretold many events hundreds and thousands of years before they happened, then brought them to pass exactly as He said.

The Bible is unlike any other religious “holy book” as the Bible alone contains hundreds of prophecies that have been fulfilled just as they were recorded years ahead of time and with many more waiting to be fulfilled.

In Ezekiel 33:33 God tells us why He revealed the future to His servants: “And when this comes to pass—surely it will come— then they will know that a prophet has been among them.”

Prophecy shows that God is in ultimate control

Not only can God reveal the future well ahead of time, but He can also bring to pass what He has foretold. In Isaiah 46:9-10 He declares that no one or nothing else can remotely approach His power, using prophecy as an example:
“Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,’”

The prophet Daniel said that God “removes kings and raises up kings” and “reveals deep and secret things” (Daniel 2:21-22). God is in complete and ultimate control according to His plans and purpose!

Prophecy reveals the consequences of obedience and disobedience

A theme found repeatedly in Bible prophecy is that choices and actions have consequences. One of the biggest mistakes individuals or nations can make is to assume they can act as they wish without those actions eventually catching up with them.

Paul summarized this very well in Galatians 6:7: “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.”

Two long chapters of the Bible—Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28—spell this out clearly. They are commonly known to Bible students as the “blessings and curses” chapters. They describe in considerable detail what happens when a nation chooses to obey and honour God (blessings) and what results when a nation turns its back and disobeys Him.

Sadly, the ancient kingdoms of Israel and Judah failed to heed these warnings, and they stand as a stark example to nations such as the United States, Britain, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and others who’ve been greatly blessed by God but now increasingly deny Him and trample His laws and Word underfoot. Their fate is likewise spelled out in prophecy if they refuse to turn from that treacherous path!

Prophecy reveals God’s will, that He wants all to receive His gift of salvation

Much of Bible prophecy is grim and at times even frightening. God wants us to understand the painful consequences that will follow from choosing the wrong way and the blessings that come from obeying Him. But the prophecies of the Bible almost always end with hope and good news. Paul told Timothy, God “desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth” (1 Timothy 2:4).

Prophecy reveals God’s plan for humanity

Bible prophecy reveals that God is working out an incredible plan for how He will bring us to salvation and eternal life in His divine family. Notice a few key prophetic statements from His Word that hint at the marvellous future awaiting those who surrender their lives to Him now:
“I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty” (2 Corinthians 6:18).

“Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure” (1 John 3:2-3).

“Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years” (Revelation 20:6).

Prophecy should motivate us to repent and turn to God

In Jeremiah 25:4-5 we see Jeremiah himself summarizing the message of God’s prophets to His people: “The Lord has sent to you all His servants the prophets … They said, ‘Repent now everyone of his evil way and his evil doings …’”

We see that another of God’s purposes for prophecy is to urge humankind to repent. The apostle Peter, in 2 Peter 3:9, tells us: “The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance”

The message of every prophet of the Bible is that if you turn your life around, if you listen to God and heed His warnings and change, you can avoid the terrible times prophesied to come on our world.

He tells us what we must do in Isaiah 55:6-7: “Seek the Lord while He may be found, call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.”

“For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,” (Titus 2:11-13)

Knowledge about God’s end-time program, as well as the expectation of the coming of Christ, are given as a strong incentive towards holy living and an unwavering commitment to Christ.
“Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God” (2 Peter 3:11-12).

THERE WILL BE A DAY …

For many centuries God was patient and long-suffering with humanity.
“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is long-suffering towards us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).

But… THERE WILL COME A DAY … MOST UNEXPECTED, when God’s patience and long-suffering with an unbelieving and unrepentant human race will be over.

The Lord Jesus calls His disciples to live vigilant and prayerful lives: “Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to ESCAPE all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man” (Luke 21:36).

Of course, there are many mockers and scoffers out there. “knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. 7 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.” (2 Peter 3:3-7)

When warned that we are living in the latter days, they are also quick to point out that nobody knows the day or the hour. “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.” (Matthew 24:36)

However, as Bible believing Christians, God gives us so many warning signs and prophecies, that it is not difficult to realize that we are in the season regarding the coming of Christ. Those who ignore prophecy, would be caught unexpectedly. “But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. 2 For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.” (1 Thessalonians 5:1-3)
